Recently Skylum Software announced that Luminar Neo was "Feature Complete". In this video, I talk about what that means, and along the way, I talk about improvements and additions to the application I like to see in the future.

Anthony, good report on Luminar Neo and good examples of your analysis. Thanks for sharing this and I think many of us are in agreement with you.

It is amazing the work they have done on NEO while their country is at war, God bless them.

I completely agree with you, I got the original Luminar and Luminar 3 and 4, enough is enough. I’m still using Luminar 4, even though not all the features work on a Windows computer as on an Apple computer, I can manage, for the rest I use Affinity Photo and your tutorials are a very big help.

I agree with everything you said about the future of Luminar Neo.

Excellent assessment. But if Skylum history is anything to go by, and what else is there to base a forecast on, other than wishes, is that in either late 2022 or perhaps sometime in 2023 SkyLum will announce Luminar Pro or NEO Pro, or NEO Plus, or Luminar Ultra, or whatever, which will be incompatible with all previous versions but which will be a merger of AI and NEO, plus some other must-have features which won’t be present at launch and be buggy when they do get added. But it will be touted as “the way forward” for their software. And cost $80. My app folder is littered with Luminar versions. You can’t delete them as any smart filter created in Photoshop with an old Luminar plug-in won’t open. It doesn’t convert to a new Luminar. It’s just dead, unless the old Luminar used to create it is still present.

As you asked for a reaction on your video I'm giving you my thoughts : you do very well to activate the Luminar developers to continue to upgrade their software with all kinds of things as in Lightroom & Photoshop (very complicated) but please don't forget that there is a very big war in Ukraine. It takes time and we all must be very grateful with all the stuff we have got with Luminar Neo. I try to learn everything but it takes time as English is not my native language. Great things have been done with al my photo's so Anthony continue with your tutorials, speak loud & clear, not to fast, and you will be blessed for your work.

Saving our own presets, and also dodge and burn tools are a must. Hopefully they add these. Batch Exports are definitely slower in this vs luminar 4, but otherwise I think they did a great job with the program.

I agree completely with you and in addition I wish the mood look in Neo can be made like the Luk in Luminar AI where you can see the effects of each look by sliding through each without actually opening

Thanks a lot. Very helpful, but I think that knowing which corrections still have to come is good enough for me for the time being. I should add that I don’t do postprocessing very often. Only for special images that I think can be improved a lot.

I have been a photographer for over 30 years and I use Liminar Neo and Luminar Ai or Pixelmator pro for final editing, the dust spot removal in Neo does not work well enough if at all, i find myself spending a lot of time manually removing them especially when restoring old 1950-1970 slides or scanning prints.
I use Plustek Opticfilm 8000i for slides and edit them with Silverfast 8 for Ai dust and scratch removal it is by far the better editing tool for this, it literally picks every single bit and is also imperfection size adjustable.
If your looking at restoring slides go with a Plustek Opticfilm 8000i with the silverfast 8 software and for darkroom prints use a plustek a3 scanner or Epson scanner with the silverfast 8 software, then import to Luminar neo or Ai for further editing if you want pro results.

Thank you Anthony! You just did the BEST review of Luminar Neo period! I’ve been down the original Luminar to Luminar AI road already. Now there is Neo. Sorry but twice shame on me and a third time shame on you. And it’s still full of almost works well features. And the main functions I bought it for can be done with Photoshop and others. Photoshop still does an amazing job but requires staying on the Ps learning curve. We’ll, so does Luminar and any other new software that supposedly makes editing images easier than Photoshop. You helped me determine that it’s not time yet to pay for a third iteration that doesn’t offer enough to make a third payment worth it. Thank you Anthony, I WILL continue to listen to you and appreciate your honesty.

I’ve found that the erase tool in Neo is not a good as in Luminar AI and not having a clone tool in Neo makes it difficult to correct the blemishes left by the poor erase tool.

Dodge and burn is still listed on the web site as coming soon. There is no mention of a clone stamp tool.

What it means is that we are unstoppable when using Luminar Neo as a plug-in with ON1 Photo RAW 2022.5. So much power!!!

For years I have followed your videos, Anthony, to get your objective and honest software analyses. Will you notify us when some of the changes to NEO that you are recommending have been made? Thanks.

I think Luminar is trying to move forward via a subscription model and offering future features by means of "extensions". They have already brought out an HDR extension and an AI Noise removal extension and have teased several more extensions. The pricing model for the extensions makes it advantageous to go with the yearly subscription rather than perpetual licenses for NEO and each extension, so I think that's the way they want to drive the customer base (while being able to say thy gave us a choice). The lack of a clone feature is a glaring omission but I wonder if that will be a feature update of NEO or a separate extension. Either way, they need to add that capability.

Hi Anthony, surely the speed of processing is also linked to the specification of users' PCs/MACs? Thank you for your explanations of the features which as with all your video commentaries, are superb. Regards JB

I really hope that the Luminar development team watch this video and take Anthony's suggestions to heart.

I hope that future updates will give us a slider to reduce the effect of presets, previous Skylum applications did have this feature. Also in "Crop" there are guidelines in the "Rule of Thirds" ratio, would it be helpful to have the option to have guidelines in different ratio's eg the "Golden Rule".
