What if that illusion that the brain generates to make is seems special is the actual definition of Consciousness :-)

The sheer fact that you are having that conversation proves that consciousness is real 😂

Finally, yes!!! It doesn’t exist. In my language there isn’t a word for it other than awareness.

No one is special, I agree. We're all just part of our ecological system around us!

Sorry, I'm not buying that idea.

They are talking about phenomenal consciousness specifically, not just consciousness which includes self awareness. So the hypothesis would be that we have consciousness line self awareness but no inner qualitative and purely subjective mental states called qualias.

It's both real and unreal. It's sharing the under with each other. When we think we are gifting the real.

Sounds like some people have experience with mind-altering drugs in this conversation.

Yes, it is radical given what the conscious human mind has been able to achieve, scientific knowledge, technology, philosophy, mathematics, etc. Human beings seem to be causal agents who have agency.

Isn’t thinking we have these special properties the definition of consciousness? How can a critique of consciousness assert the brain “makes us think”? Of course the brain makes us think. Is this maybe smarter in context of the longer interview? Maybe a critique of consciousness given IDK it’s not new but has been going on centuries shouldn’t be a short video. The bro-ification of doubt about consciousness knowledge certainty and doubt, ladies and gentlemen. Jeeez. I hope I’m wrong. I love this channel. Does this guy hate these critiques? If so, is he giving them proper credit? The critiques of consciousness I know, while unpersuasive, aren’t quite this sloppy.

But it's not an illusion because we experience consciousness. We couldn't experience the illusion without it.

Consciousness is just a tool for the biological machine that we are. And that this machine gets exited about it, is a mere coincidence.

I think therefore I am. It’s called free-will mofos - use it. That’s life.

While it is an option (and it's terrifying) but I think this doesn't fit well with the observer effect since the fact that matter's location depends on if it is being observed or not.

I mean, it exists, but it's not the special thing people think it is, it's just the product of the brain.

Aside from “emergence from complexity” I’d argue that sure, okay why not be an illusion, since no one can actually pinpoint, in any meaningful way that we all haven’t heard or thought of before, of what consciousness even is, it’s hardly even been defined.

The question isn't: Are we actually in control of our consciousness?

The question is: Do we even have the capacity to make a choice different than the one that we end up choosing?

So the real question is: If you rewind reality and then hit the play button again, will everything just play out the same exact way?

If yes, then Consciousness is 100% an illusion. The factors that led to a decision would always lead to that decision, no matter what. If no, then it is POSSIBLE to make decisions, to be in "control". This is not to say that every decision that is made by every human being is an actual free willed decision, just that it is achievable. We may come to find that only a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very small fraction of human beings achieve true conscious decision making capacity.

"And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret, a confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me
The source is bright and endless
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting
And as I pull my head out, I am without one doubt
Don't want to be down here soothing my narcissism
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
Before I pine away (pine away)
Before I pine away (pine away)
Before I pine away (pine away)
Before I pine away
So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
And leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable
So let the light touch you
So let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason"

Tool.
