Building a PC to BEAT the PS5 Pro!

It took us 3 years to build the PS5 Killer and now we’re conspiring to murder the Pro in less than a week. It can’t be that hard, right? That $200 price bump EVERYONE is angry about gives us A LOT of extra budget when it comes to assembling our brand new PS5 PRO KILLER… Better GPU? What about a new Platform for our Ram and CPU?

Reminder that pricing in the video is for USED parts, and these are links to NEW listings:
Purchases made through some store links may provide some compensation to Linus Media Group.

So much whining and coping and seething in the comments. Don't bother going down there lol

I think the use of used parts IS part of what makes PC gaming so special. You CAN make the cuts to stretch your dollar more if needed.

Slapping a new GPU in the old PS5 killer PC actually would have shown why it's better to go with a part by part upgradable ecosystem

At 7:40 we incorrectly wrote that the PS5 PRO has RDNA 2 Architecture when it actually has RDNA 3 Compute Units and RDNA 4 Ray Tracing Hardware (essentially RDNA 3.5). We've blurred the 2 but are keeping this comment pinned to reflect that.

With the direction the GPU market is going and how half-assed developers are optimizing their ports to PC, the argument is getting harder.

I'm just glad we're all still fighting over console vs PC. Life would be boring without choices.

I think people tend to forget that games are highly optimised for consoles while these days it feels like devs dont even bother with optimisation on the windows versions anymore

I dont think using secondhand parts is a 'shortcut'. The ability to source parts from more than one place is in fact an advantage that pc has over buying a console from its single manufacturer

10:20 Digital Foundry covered this in their Upscaling Face-off video between PSSR, DLSS and FSR. It seems to be an art asset issue in the game and DLSS/PSSR are the only two scalers that resolves the grass to a satisfactory degree

That $XXX to $165 dub at 8:52 was so smooth i had to watch it multiple times. Great job and a lot less jarring than the text-to-speech dubs!

You guys also need to remember that console games have customized settings etc for each model, like RDR2 having custom low settings that allow it to run easier without much clarity loss, these settings CAN be replicated on PC but we would need to know precisely the settings and values that were changed, I imagine they would do a lot of adjustment to "cheat" performance feel

You just built almost the exact setup my buddy currently runs. Same motherboard, same cpu, same storage, heck even the same ram. the main difference is that he instead runs a 3050 and it is built out of a lan party case from like 2013 he pulled out of a dumpster.

For ratchet and clank you left it at 4x anisotropic filtering, also using insomniacs upscaler is better than FSR 3.

I'm a PC gamer, but I'm glad that Sony has been putting in the work on their upscaling engine. Good upscalers mean gaming hardware can last longer, which means fewer components in a landfill and more gamers can get their hands on working hardware.

I know I'm late to the party, but it is commonly known that the PS5 and the Xbox are built at a loss, and that they cost closer to $1000-$1200 per unit if not more since Sony keeps giving different numbers. They make the money back with their game ecosystem.

I'll take one of those "350 dollar" 7800xt's... That exact card from the link is 480 dollars.

A 7800 xt for $350 as "easy to find" is kinda crazy. Realistically on ebay the average is around 400-450

Maybe the real PS5 Pro killer was the friends we made along the way

I think the major deal breaker here for everyone that people always forget is the fact that not everybody is a hardcore gamer. Some people just game casually and the fact and truth is a console is ready optimised and chances are fps aside you're gonna have a smoother experience on a console.
