Repetition of a short sentence or question helps you master key aspects of pronunciation, including intonation, rhythm, and linking. 💪 Level up and master expressing intention. Your tone of voice can convey emotions. In this #short, listen how I say the given question three completely different ways, although I still use the same basic rising intonation, rhythm, and linking.

🙏Special thanks to Tom Hanks for inspiring this activity by demonstrating his acting exercises that make use of repetition.

Teachers! Have fun in the classroom. You can challenge students to say this given statement ("Is there something I can do for you?") different ways. You're the director. Provide specific directions and context. The repetition will build fluency and confidence.

This is a good question. I have already read your answers. Two matches. It's the bright idea.

Hi, Jennifer! I had to watch this video several times because #2 was clear (you are addressing a customer) but the other two were tricky. My guess is that you use #1 intonation if you are talking to a friend, and you use #3 when you don't want to help the other person but you still need to be polite.

First One, You May Be Talking To Someone Who Have A Problem, So You Feel Worry When You Say " Is There Something I Can Do For You " Second One You May Be Talking To A Customer I Do Not Know The Feeling You Feel But I Feel That You Are Speaking To a Customer In Second One, Last One Is Like When My Grandpa Asking Me To Get Him In The House With A Wheel Chair :D :D :D :D :D

Hey
Is this sentence grammatically correct,
"Kindly to permit two days leave."
What is wrong in this??

Hello Jennifer... long time no see... I hope you're fine.

1. Worried - realizing there's some urgent help to offer, though not knowing what
2. (Newly) hired salesgirl - being as kind as possibly be with a customer
3. Bored and dozy voice - apathetic, just for doing it

Still wondering if you have one specific video with phonetic intonation signs. (The little "apostrophes" one finds e.g. in the Oxford Dictionary. Could be low and could be high, and at times both low and high at the beginning of a word.) I use the IPA version, 'cuz I get confused with the other one.
Thanks.
