For $130 I bought the Sanlida Royal X8 recurve. It comes with 6 arrows, glove, arm guard, bow case and a D97 string. I shot the bow for 2 months to see if I was gonna like it and quickly bought some GT Warrior arrows to tune properly to the bow. They are flying like darts now and I’m sticking groups at 20yds in a 6in pie plate. Buy cheap figure out if you like it and graduate from there if you do. I’m hooked so ordered a Satori riser and some Sanlida X10 carbon foam limbs for an ILF rig. I LUV the way custom bows look but have issue spending thousands of dollars without trying the bow out first. I have little to no access to bows other then bear bows as we don’t have a huge trad community around me. Thinking of goin to ETAR this summer to see some customs and put hands on them. Right now though the ease of adjustability of an ILF I think will make big difference. Totally agree though CHEAP at 1st as this really isn’t gonna be for everyone.

I bought the Black Hunter with green riser a few months ago and am happy with it. I got the 25# recurve limbs that I use for training proper form during the off season. It is a great starter bow for sure. For ~$60, you can buy additional limbs if you want to work up to a heavier weight. The other great thing is that the riser is the same on the long bow and recurve, so you can simply swap out limbs that way, too.

Setup was pretty quick. I shoot off the shelf, so added those materials. Then I put silencers on the contact points where string touches limb. Finally, I ordered a fast flight string from Shatterproof Archery, which is just awesome.

I have less than $150 invested and most of that could have been recouped had I not liked the setup. However, I love shooting bare-bow instinctive archery and see myself moving more towards that and away from compound bows.

The two things I would recommend to new trad. archers are to start out with a light weigh, and shoot a dozen arrows every other day at 5-10 yards.

Man I’m glad to see you getting into Traditional! It’s probably the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done and put a whole different perspective on my hunting in the past few years and it’s a wonderful journey ❤️

Nice video Josh!!! I have the black hunters in 45 and 55# and love them both, you can’t go wrong with them, replace the string and some silencers you’re good to go!

I'm a recurve guy and the samick sage is pretty hard to beat for the price. It's a takedown so you can change poundage with different limbs.

I got 200fps out of my 50lbss black hunter. 575 grain arrow too. A good flemish twist is a must tho

Love Solomon! I’ve probably owned 10 pairs! From causal shoes around town, to mid-height boots, heavy duty boots, and even a couple insulated pairs. Absolutely love them and very affordable for the most part. I almost always go for the Gortex waterproof variety.

Looks like a great bow to buy at low poundage and use it to build form when learning to shoot, or after a break from shooting.

Heck, I'm still jealous of your $35 yard sale Grizzlies! I will say, I've bought those same arrows for practice... they've held up well, but you'll be gluing the inserts before you know it; pick up some glue as well.

I had a Bearpaw mohawk hybrid longbow that is about a thousand dollar bow and liked the black hunter better. I sold the mohawk and bought two black hunter bows. If you like a DAS DX5 with a medium grip you might like the black hunter as these two bows shoot great !!! I put rubber tree straps around the limbs to quiet the black hunter down..

The hardest and most expensive thing I found out about trad bows was finding the right arrow combo I had never paper tuned before once I did it showed me so many flaws in my setup but once I figured it out it shoots darts I shoot a 43# hybrid longbow @27 inches I shoot a 500 spine arrow full length with a 200 gr insert and a 250 gr tuff head I don’t shoot over 25 yards at game but I’ll try any distance on the 3d range it’s a serious learning curve but so worth it when you get them shooting darts

seen a Cabela recurve at a garage sale but couldn't quite barter well enough for it... until the next one.

My favorite trad bow is a josh taulker original.

30 inches arrows are good for this bow?

I have that exact quiver and I hate it. Every time I try to slide my arrow in, the quiver slides up the limb. How do you adjust a brace height on recurve bow? I would think the string length would predetermine that without being able to adjust it.

Do you think the long bow is smoother than the recurve?
