This is the somewhat embarrassing story behind why I actually started my online business (and it's NOT what you think)... and the one impulsive decision that set me up for all the success I've had. And, of course, there's a big lesson here...

Love hearing these stories. I've had experiences of changing the course of my life based on a sudden intuitive feeling, abandoning a seemingly well thought out plan... and never looking back again. Those decisions propelled me to much better life situations. Thanks, Jeff, for this great story.

Thank you know how hearing back from people lets you know you are being heard. Loved this one. I would have called it the reverse engineer . You had engineered two things.
1. How to get back into school and do something you didn't like in the first place (saftey zone or so it seems)
2. Started something you were passionate about seeing if it could work. (passion)
passion always pays. Especially when your passion has substance. Blessings Gurutej/EnergyGuru

Thanks Jeff. The best thing you said for me was about seeing the future. I think I've lost my vision for what COULD be and I am slowly getting it back. Thanks agsin

Love this stuff Jeff, I've been self employed for 25 years now in my manufacturing business. I can totally relate quitting my factory job of 12 years and starting up my own business. I was scared as hell but I saw what i wanted and went for it with 3 kids a mortgage and a stay at home wife. I did certain things to get ready over my 12 years so it was a well planned risk. Long story short I've enjoyed myself and made way more money than I would have otherwise... I've learned so much about business... how to do it right from beginning to end. Met so many people along the way and now I'm thinking of doing an online business as I just can't see myself retiring totally once I sell my factory... more as a hobby to help others figure out how to get into their own business. I use to build wordpress sites as a hobby as well and did produce a small online income for a time from adsense and affiliate marketing selling of all things which started with portable green houses from amazon which morfed into everything on Amazon. One of these days I may take your course. For now my talents will have to do, seo, how to build a list, spash pages, making youtubes, social media etc. book writing, publishing etc. So I 'm going to get into small business startups of all sorts and successful crowdfunding techniques (my book) and eventually a course. I've got two ideas I actually want to crowdfund for which will involve my list or tribe who will see in real time how the crowdfunding works and even be involved . You are an inspiration for sure as I move forward listening to your story.

I can relate to this story. Mine is different in the details but not so much in the overall tenor. I currently have a very, very cushy day job. I mean that it is secure, I get an absolutely ridiculous amount of freedom and I'm grossly overpaid for the amount of work I put in. To give an idea, I have written and published six books in the last ten years and I did essentially all of it while on the clock at my day job. (I insist on calling it my day job because it's not my life's work.)

Where my story is similar is that I'm desperate to give up this extremely cushy job and step out on my own. Naturally, just about everyone in my world thinks I am absolutely insane to even consider this.

I am trained as a professional copywriter and, by all accounts, pretty good at it. I've also been dabbling in a handful of other ventures and business ideas. In fact, I am currently watching all your past videos as "homework" for a spec assignment that's coming up next month at the AWAI bootcamp.

Bottom line: I'm going to end up writing for you. Even if it ends up paying less than I currently make at my day job.

So funny! I had a similar path. You make your decisions and you never fully know where those will take you. But in hindsight they took you just where you are now and like in your case (and actually also in mine) those decisions take you where you want to be.

That was a good sign that you walked out of the class! It indicates that you are an independent thinker and you had already learned a lot. If you had stayed in school that might not have led you to do what you did in your life and produce these videos. In a way I think you made more of an impact by NOT staying in school. Way to go!
