BEST...DESK...EVER

ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video we're building a live edge, epoxy, resin, slab desk. We've done a few live edge slab projects now, and so far we've been very restrained in our designs, making sure that we don't do anything to overshadow the slab itself. The wood slab top has always been the star of the show. In this project, we threw all of that out the window. The slab top is still an important part of the desk...but I think the base is the real star of the show here. I'm not sure if this was the right decision. But we wanted to give it a shot. So after you see the finished results, let us know what you think :)

This may be my favorite of your projects. The angle on drawers makes the piece much more interesting and unique.

As a Japanese man who doesn't speak English, I appreciated the inclusion of the yen conversion. It really helped me understand what you were talking about even though I have no idea what you were talking about

That's the most beautiful desk I've ever seen. The narration and camera work was a refreshing change from other woodworking vids. I'm blown away by your ability to flawlessly execute - and even gloss over - the things you know so well, and then go further out of your way to humbly acknowledge the nuances of what you've been learning. I can't believe the desk is still listed for sale.

Update: as of February 2023 - 7 months after listing, 2 months after this comment, the desk sold for $6, 500.

You come to watch cause of the thumbnail and you subscribe cause of this whimsical narrative!

UPDATE: I've finished watching and I can add that the producion and the filming are also amazing. The assembly part made me shed a few tears because how aesthetically pleasant is the final item and it shows how thoughtful you were designing it and it reflects on what true craftsmanship means. Congrats!

First time seeing your channel, as someone who grew up in a family of contractors, carpenters, and home diy enthusiasts, there’s just something about this video that made me feel nostalgic. You two made a beautiful piece of furniture

Love the attention to detail with the little things like the 3 degree change on the legs, and consideration for potential clients being able to break it down easily for transport. True craftsmanship. For whatever its worth, you got my sub & my respect ✊️

1k is so low for such a mesmerizing work. The love involved, the efforts and time, the design research and errors and pain, the cost of electricity, tools and industrial products... Screw those saying 1k is expensive. And it's so beautiful. Congrats guys, keep going, definitely wood Masters.

Holy sh… I spit my drink out when I saw you actually used that shirt… question, is that available in your merch shop?

A lot of positive comments about the desk, but not nearly enough comments giving props to the subtle and clever humour throughout the video. Loved it.

Love that you gave a nod to blacktail, that is another channel I love watching, both of you have really informed and inspired my work. I’m an artist who makes giant sculptures (for burning man and the like) and when Covid hit I was able to stay afloat making furniture, both of your channels had a huge impact on that, so thank you <3 Always feels good to see in the artists/maker community that level of reciprocity.

Im not even sure where to begin. Obviously, the piece you build here is impeccable. Your craftsmanship, especially working as a team, is unmatched. There are many skilled craftsman out there. But, in my opinion, the difference between their videos and yours is that you have somehow managed to map your thought process along the way in designing this piece and then merging that with interesting visuals that are relating to where you are in the project. Hands down the absolute best overall "how we did it" video I've ever seen. You should be very proud and probably paid way more than you make for these type projects.

Chris, you rock. I'm a woodworker, and I seriously get so much out of your videos. I'm currently working on a coffee table that has a bit of your style to it. Thank you for being you...a seriously awesome desinger and woodworker!

Could be your best video yet. Because of your deep library, the pace can keep moving on this actual build. And for those interested, they can go watch videos on the specific techniques. Keep it up, guys.

What a beautiful and elegant desk. I can say the same about the quality of the video. You guys are an inspiration to all of us, amateurs woodworkers. You have your own way to do you "thing" here in YouTube and it is just great. Thanks a bunch, all the way from Finland.

First video of yours I've watched. Been a shooter for years. You really have something here. Audio quality, shot quality, shot diversity, mixed media, pacing. I know you're making an amazing desk, but I can't tell if its better or worse than the video production, because both are just that good. Loved the witty boule tieback and I didn't even skip over the advertisement. The process of you explaining your detail oriented cleaning, directly translated into the detail oriented work being shown. Hope you all pat yourselves on the back every once and a while. Subbed and belled!

**Edit** Went through some of the comments after writing this. Glad to see so many people really appreciating both sides of this content!

Blacktail & Foureyes have quickly become my two favourite woodworking channels. I dig everything you both do. 👊🏼
