Environment Secretary tries to escape angry farmers | LBC

LBC's Aggie Chambre travelled to Oxford, where hundreds of farmer were waiting to speak to Environment Secretary, Steve Reed, in protest against proposed inheritance tax changes.

Farmers criticised Reed for apologising but failing to address their concerns directly.

Protesters argued the changes threaten family farms, with some facing multi-million-pound tax bills, forcing land sales and risking corporate takeovers.

Reed’s promises, including increased British food procurement for public institutions, have been deemed by many to be insufficient.

so 51-52% of them voted for Brexit (inline with the rest of the country) ands all that entails. no more EU subsidies for farmers that the UK alone cannot afford to pay them. a huge decline in trade and exports leading to a lower tax base that the government has to use to pay for services. Has anyone told them how bad it will be if/when the UK makes a trade deal with the USA? there will be an influx of cheap, biotics filled meat coming from the USA which will undercut all farmers here. But thats what they wanted with Brexit, right....RIGHT?

These gullible fools are doing the bidding for rich investment land owners - most farmers will not suffer one penny because of these changes - in fact they should reduce the exorbitant cost of farm land as the speculator is taken out of the equation.

Most non farming people don’t understand the lack of disposable income of most farmers. They could be asset rich, but can’t afford the tax, so the land will be lost to wealthy people that will buy it but don’t pay tax - like the royal family and large corporations
