Andrew Yang argues for the urgent need to eliminate party primaries, highlighting the success of Alaska's reforms. Yang explains how the introduction of open primaries and ranked-choice voting led to significant political changes, including the ousting of Sarah Palin and the re-election of Lisa Murkowski, despite her controversial vote to impeach Donald Trump. Dan DiSalvo joins the conversation, probing the potential impact of these reforms on the future of political parties in the U.S.

Political parties going away would be a good thing. Right now we use it as a crutch. Most people don’t even know the policy positions of their party’s candidate, they just know to vote for their team

"look what they did in Alaska". My city alone has 2x more people than Alaska, that is ridiculous.

He's completely right, and that's why the people in power will never let him be president.

The problem isn't primaries, the problem is first past the post voting systems. What he's talking about is the success of ranked choice voting.

You will not be getting rid of political parties any time soon. There is too much power at stake. Candidates need money to run and that is what the party does mostly - provide money. If you get rid of parties then the price of buying a politician will drop.

Ok, so...primaries that allow for 4 candidates are still primaries.

Yes. Eliminate political parties entirely. Move to ranked choice voting.
