I got my first chicks late Spring this year, and after filling the small feeders and waterers for a month, I bought the same kit from Amazon to utilize a five gallon bucket to ensure the chickens never ran out of feed or water. I still check both daily, but it's saved me a lot of time and they work great. I put the buckets on three red bricks each. The girls love them and we have a LOT less feed waste!
Pro tip: Go to your local Walmart bakery counter and ask to buy their five gallon buckets with lids from their icing container. They charge $1 each, and it's a relief that I know for sure they're food grade. Good job getting your kite together quickly and operationally sound.

You can get the five gallon buckets at your local bakeries. They throw them away. They get their icing and fillings in them. Walmart bakery has them.

I used the same kit when I built my feeder last year. I used a 13gal bucket which holds an entire bag of feed. I have 6 chickens and it last a month.
Love it!

I bought this kit a couple years ago. It is awesome, never have had an issue with any of it. So nice! I put mine at the very bottom of the bucket so I have less feed and water waste

Here in Texas, Firehouse Subs shops sell their empty 5 gallon pickle buckets, with lid, for $3 each. It looks like the closest Firehouse to you is in Springfield. If you call before going, they'll probably tell you if they have any buckets available. It's a great way to get food grade buckets and lids for a low price and keeps them out of the landfill. I typically dump some coffee grounds in the bucket and let them absorb the pickle odor for a while. For feed buckets, I'd rinse them thoroughly, then leave them in the sun for a day or two to dry before putting feed in them.

I got some waterers like you showed on your video about a year ago. Some of them were leaking. I replaced the washers with a different kind of washer of similar size. That has eliminated the leaking. Also, I put 3 waterers on one half of my bucket so when I carry the bucket after filling it, the waterers do not bump against my leg and break.

Kevin, we use those exact watering and feeding items in 5 gallon buckets now for 4 years and they're still going strong.

I made up a few feed buckets using empty cat litter buckets. My son 3D printed the access tubes for pennies. They aren't as fancy as the store bought, but they work great and the chickens haven't complained.😊

We have these for our chickens. The feeders they still dig all feed out to the ground . The watering part is good over all. I put gamma seal lids for ease to open them which works great for us.

I'd suggest making a sheet metal cone and inverting it to keep feed flowing to the edgs

Great ideas, I will use these for my chickens, I have come to realize prices arent like the 80's and 90's era anymore. I make more money now then then, prices will hike and although I wish I can spend the 1980-90 prioes with the income I get now (not much by the way) I am willing to go with the flow because I need and wont go without. FYIYou might be able to ask at the Bakery and get the buckets with a lid even cheaper. Here I can get 3+ for what you got 1 .

We use a similar feeder for our chickens. The feeder holes need to be hanging just at the birds head height when standing. If the feeder holes are too low mine won't eat out of them. We have ours hanging from a large chain that is adjustable if needed.

Instead of a 5 gallon buckets I bought a square pet food storage container. It has a hinged top that snap locks shut.

i get my buckets from a fast food restaurant that had pickles in them. firehouse subs sell them for $2, most others are free
