Höstens stora krigsdrama tar dig till April 1945. Mitt under de allierades stora slutoffensiv i Europa får en rutinerad sergeant (Brad Pitt) i uppdrag att leda en Sherman-tank, och hennes fem man starka besättning bakom fiendens linjer. Underlägsna i både antal och vapenkraft har sergeanten och hans mannar oddsen emot sig, men inget kan stoppa dem i deras hjältemodiga strävan efter att gå till attack mot själva hjärtat av Nazi-Tyskland.
