Roger Taylor Explains why they have NO Contact with John Deacon 'He Freaked out'

Queen have risen triumphantly back to the top of popular culture over the past few years. The movie Bohemian Rhapsody smashed box office records and introduced new generations to the magic of Freddie Mercury and the majesty of the band's music. It magnified the popularity of the latest incarnation of the band fronted by Adam Lambert. But where is John Deacon. why isn't he in the band if they are touring again? Roger Taylor bluntly admitted: "We don’t have any contact with John."
Deacon still has financial involvement with the band since Queen royalties are split four ways between the three surviving members and Freddie Mercury's beneficiaries. Brian May confirmed they keep Deacon informed of any plans or developments but he never replies.

May and Taylor take his silence as acquiescence: "It's his choice. He doesn't contact us. John was quite delicate all along."
When the film Bohemian Rhapsody came out, Taylor said: "I haven't heard a squeak from John, not a single guttural grunt."

May and Taylor were together in various bands before the formation of Queen.

Then Freddie joined and John was the last one to join Queen

Freddie's long-term PA explained that he and John formed their own special bond: "Freddie took John under his wing because he was the new boy. He was shy, not like Brian and Roger. He wanted to protect him."

With Freddie gone, Roger Taylor said: "John freaked out and decided he really couldn’t deal with being in the music business anymore, It was an odd period. Really the band was over."
Jacky Smith who ran the Queen fan club said: "John just gave up after Freddie died. He and Freddie were opposites really because John is so shy and he was the youngest in the band. Freddie took him under his wing and they were very close for all those years.

"Freddie drew the attention away, and without Freddie there, I don't think John could face any of it."

May said: "I think losing Freddie was very hard for him as well. He found that incredibly hard to process, to the point where actually playing with us made it more difficult."

Deacon's college friend, Robert Ahwai said; "Maybe he thought, 'Freddie was the band, so what's the point? He suffered from depression after Freddie died and I am not sure he has ever come out of it.'"

May told Rolling Stone magazine Deacon no longer takes any active part in the legacy of Queen or potential projects: "John doesn't want to be (involved). He's in his own space and we respect that.

"It's a shame, because we would love to have him around but he doesn't want to be in that arena anymore...he just doesn't want to be walking those roads."
John himself famously said: "As far as we are concerned, this is it. There is no point carrying on. It is impossible to replace Freddie."

John Deacon rightly said that There is no replacement for Freddie

John is quite right, it is impossible to replace Freddie. I completely understand his feelings of overwhelming sadness. I believe John
still loves Brian and Roger, of course he does, but it's the reminder that the one dearest to him is no longer there. I'm happy they can
carry on for Freddie and John, they lost them both, really.

In my own words... John Deacon believed that Freddie Mercury was irreplaceable in Queen.

I love Queen, all of them, but Roger should have been more respectful for John and his feelings.

John never contacts Brian and Roger anymore because he is still to this day destroyed by Mercury's death as if he died yesterday. I can imagine he avoids listening to Queen or anything
with Freddie's voice in it because it reminds him that he's gone. Think of how hurt we are from losing Freddie, then think of how John feels, how someone he saw and interacted with every
day in a good portion of his life is no longer there for him.

Quite simply, music is a crazy, difficult business, and John Deacon just didn’t want to do it without Freddie. I get it. I’m glad Brian and Roger have continued, but I totally understand John’s choice. He’s still making a LOT of money, and maybe the process of making the music was just not appealing without Freddie.

How do you replace a man who was a once in a generation talent….you can’t

Repeated here is everything a Real Queen fan is aware of. Still it was good hearing again - and the comments were theraputic. Thanks. Freddie was the reasoning heart and soul of Queen. Deaky may have seemingly avoided the tough discussions between the members but he was well aware of Freddie's input keeping them musically wonderful and agreeably on track . Freddie's absence meant It would at best be simply acquiescence.

Freddie was one of kind God rest his sole.
A lot of miss Queen it's not the same as when Freddie was a live 💔 I still listen to Queen and Brian May. Queen was a family Freddie might be gone but not forgotten HE was the best front man ever ❤ 💙 💯 ♥

I loved Queen, but Freddie was irreplacable. Credit to John for seeing the big picture. Just let him be for goodness sake!

While all 4 were very talented in their own right....Freddie's voice was the star...once that voice and personna was didnt have the same Queen magic, in my opinion. So I have to agree with John in his stepping out of the band. That is his right to privacy to be out of the limelight. Emotionally it was probably much too difficult for him to continue on. I wish Roger and Brian the best in their trying to continue on but Adam Lambert is not the same front man Freddie Mercury was...that can not be duplicated

Yes it's almost impossible to replace Freddie. With his unique singing and musical ability i can understand john deaky wants his privacy if you just imagine being crowded by adoring fans when you're a very shy person it would be overwhelming and you would feel uncomfortable and a bit ❤ Claustrophobic. John just wants a quiet life and people should respect his decision i mean it would do my head in if journalists were following me around everywhere you'd never have a moments peace I'd just like to say john is an amazing musician and a genius at electronics as well as a great song writer please people out there just give him his room and peace and quiet good luck john you're a legend wishing you all the best 👍❤

Yes John I agree, it is impossible to replace Freddie. Brian may respect John's life choice, but Roger doesn't. Have heard a few of his interviews defacing John, which is dreadful. John had a respect for Freddie that Brian and Roger never had. Leave John alone and let him live his life as he wishes.

Sorry but Adam Lambert is NOT Queen. Brian and Roger need to change the band's name to something else.

It's nothing new a band member leaving, but because John was part of a still awesome band it's sad to think he's not performing . He's a loveable guy, " little brother" of the band so it's obvious that fans still want to see him. But he made his choice and that's fine. Brian and Rodger still carry on and that's fine, I don't think I Freddie would mind them carrying on even with a new singer. 💖
