He's right. A Pharmacist used to be respected for their knowledge. Seeing them in a customer service role is depressing.

The fact he just started the video with “nope.” is insane I was genuinely shocked I was like “wow oh okay…”

My dad was a pharmacist. But he owned his own independent store. Once the big chains took over, the profession changed.

I'm a pharmacist, and I escaped retail. And I completely agree with everything he's saying. Do. Not. Go. To. Pharmacy school.

Not to mention its super sad when you see people walk away rejected bc their insurance doesn't cover it. It's very taxing mentally and emotionally

I work in a pharmacy. He speaks the truth. Retail is a nightmare.

Recently retired pharmacist. Ive had an interesting career i owned a drugstore, worked for chains, worked at hospital and finished at independent. Hospital pharmacy is the purest practice i actually saved some lives there. Independent is best community practice if you invest in knowing your customers. Third party and pbm ruined the profession by putting pressure on us. Best advice is no don't do it

Sad because without the pharmacy and those who work behind the counter some of us couldn't survive.
Thanks for everything you do!

One time I went to a pharmacy and I used one of them cost cards like you have bc I didn’t have any insurance, right? Right. Well it was at first like $125.00 then he said it was like twenty something. I can see him on the phone working on it with that company. And he hung up and he looked at me and said it was going to be more expensive maybe 60-70 idk. Then he had this look of great! I am about the be cussed out by a customer for something that isn’t even MY fault. I remember feeling so bad for him in that moment. I smiled brightly and said well, at least it’s still cheaper than what it could have been. He looked so relieved. It broke my heart. People shouldn’t be so hateful and giving innocent people up the road for things they can’t control. You’re just being an a hole to take out your anger on someone like that.

I swear the people that mistreat people in retail I think they genuinely believe they are NPCs instead of human beings. Just because they work a job doesn’t mean you have the right to show your whole entire butt and make a scene! Kindness and empathy go a long way. We all have problems we definitely don’t need people making our lives harder and more miserable.

I’m a retired ICU RN. I was always in awe at how incredibly difficult pharmacists jobs were, and the technicians and people who wait on the public. You’re treated like crap and work under incredible legal pressure, similar to nurses. I’ve always empathized with all of you and have always appreciated your knowledge when I’ve had to call.

I feel sorry for you Grant. You deserve better. I'm glad you became a content creator. At least you are respected here for your wisdom, and have a lot of people who respect you.

I usually don’t comment on posts but this one I felt like I needed to respond. I am a pharmacist and I have worked in retail for almost 10 years. I have worked in independent and been very blessed to work alongside my owners who put the patients first and not numbers. Are there days when I get yelled at and wonder if it was all worth it? Yes. But I also see the difference in what pharmacy can do for patients. I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience in retail and I agree that PBMs and insurance has turned our profession into a joke. BUT there are still some of us out here enjoying what we do and caring for patients. Don’t blanket statement the entire profession just based on your experience. We need reform and we need passionate healthcare workers to do so!

I have been watching you for a while now. This is spot on!
Replace “pharmacist” with “dentist” in what you described. I am a dentist and have been dealing with this my entire career. We have a lot in common.

There have been times in my life where I trusted my pharmacist more than my doctor.

When I worked as a pharmacy technician I thought the entire time- “wow, I can’t wait to leave this, I’d hate to work here as a career” The pharmacists are abused verbally (and physically). It’s like torture because you’re yelled out when you are literally trying your best. There’s no such thing as fast enough, there’s no time for breaks.

You are sharing the story of my brother, who was a pharmacist and tragically committed suicide in 2019.

Being in the "service industry" of any kind, is a HORROR SHOW.
Anytime youre dealing with humans its a HORROR SHOW.

This but as a dental assistant. We had so much liability, stretched thin, and brunt of people’s anger. Healthcare is so hard.
