Nice job. It's safer to have the car in neutral before hitting the starter. I've had my boot slip off before. The fuel mixture is called the Gas Adjustment Valve (GAV). While a stock Model A engine might not complain too loudly about immediately moving the spark advance all the way down, about the 9:00 oclock position would be preferable. Some cars have high compression heads and will knock in the full down position.

Looks like your gas gauge leaks. It's an easy fix if you have the special removal tools & a new cork are the strings hanging below the gas tank for?
