As a sighted person I have done this.
I also called a woman mum and explaining to her why I wanted something just to turn around and see a different woman agreeing with me while her husband and my mum were standing a few meters away laughibg their heads off. This happened about 2 years ago, and I'm a full-grown woman 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Happened to me once when I was little this girl was sitting like a statue in like a mannequin chair thingy and I touched her and she instantly moved and laughed so did everyone else in the store (NEXT) (including my mum) and I’ve never felt so embarrassed on my life

So, fully sighted here. I've been on the reverse end of this. I was sitting down waiting for my daughter to get done trying on clothes and this girl came up and started touching at the clothes I was wearing.

We both startled each other. She was horribly bashful about it and hurriedly tried to explain and I just basically told her it was okay. It's not as if public spaces are overly accommodating for anyone other than the default template human, right?

I helped her locate the actual mannequins. She seemed like q really sweet girl. Hopefully she didn't feel TOO awful about it. We both really did kinda jump-scare ourselves. LOL
