(1) Maxwell is making space in his schedule to spend time with his son, like good fathers do -- they could've had him sitting alone reading the paper or something, but didn't;

(2) Brighton reading the room and immediately nope'ing outta there when he senses a parental-figures argument pending -- and inadvertently saving himself from the horror of seeing his dad and second-mom (which she basically already was, even then) kiss.
