Interestingly, until about 2013, the Institute still used some 16mm film cameras. This isn't impressive now, but in the days before high-quality digital slow-motion cameras, it was one of the only ways to get high-quality footage. It can go up to 4K if it is scanned and post-processed carefully. Quite a few times we see crash test footage of cars tested in the 90's that look like they were tested just yesterday. The institute preserves film, scans film and post-production well. If you don't pay close attention, no one will notice that the footage was shot on film.

As much as some people hate to admit it, newer cars really do seem safer in high speed crash tests. But unfortunately they aren't better in quality and get totated in simple parking accidents. Just watching these cars, it seems as if none have any form of bumpers, and even the ones that do are small and inadequate.

I wonder if braking and the car leaning forward, nose down, would change the result of these crash tests. People tend to brake when they are about to crash or at least try to weave and take their foot off the accelerator pedal.

the dummy missed the airbag in the last one. certainly dead with head banging on the panels.

As it's hard to admit it but it goes to show that most of these car companies would rather do the minimum before their vehicles become outdated in the future.
