Today we will examine the phenomenon known as "Modern Industrialization". It is quite funny.

I have to clear a misconception for those who think that 1.14 is a minecraft version, in reality, 1.14 is a name of a texture pack made by JAPPA

Never thought it was possible to reach abysmal fps on Fabric

The modpack that i stuck around for the most was GTCEu Community Pack.

Greg is just different, the satisfaction when i first finished my blast furnace was nothing I've ever felt.

People say its grindy, thats what the satisfaction comes from.

I guess you could say that this Minecraft Mod "Might As Well Be Dead" (By Chris Christodoulou) (From risk of rain soundtrack)

Here's the thing. Modern Industrialization is not GregTech. It was and never will be GregTech, nor was it ever supposed to be. It's it's own thing. Yes, it uses GT textures and has some very similar progression to GT, but at the end of the day it is its own mod, and cares less about realism. It's more streamlined and more simplified, and focuses less on large crafting chains and more on passive automation of everything. Ores and materials are super easy to get (infinite quarries are available even in steam age), there aren't a million tiers of every machine (instead the mod opts for an upgrade system with machine hulls), and it doesn't have any of the tool crafting.

But who am I to say. After all no version past 1.12 exists

I hate to say it, but I guess I'm one of the few people that definitely likes MI.

Although MI is inspired by GT, it does not aim to be GT. If you think it does, then you will be disappointed. It is has a bit of the simple-grinding feel of early gregtech, but it obviously doesn't go very deep.

My one huge complaint about MI is something you didn't mention. Instead of BBF or EBF, you first make a steam-powered BF. This makes absolutely no sense. Steam can never get ferrous metal hot enough to make steel. Also, carbon is needed for steel, and so there is no way that "steam + iron" can work for making steel. Normally I don't care that much about chemistry being fully accurate, but this one really bothers me to no end.

After you get past that, I'm mostly ok with the mod. The Forge Hammer is different, but interesting. There is definitely a grind, and as you progress, you get rewards that minimize grindy parts, then you get new grindy stuff to do. And the rather simplistic greg-like pipes are charming. If you play it deep, you can get some massive parallelization that is actually useful (as it is in GT), and it integrates really nicely with AE2. There isn't much of an endgame, but the mod is still being developed.

I generally have really good performance with Fabric packs, although I can see that AOF is beginning to get a bit bloated today. I would switch to Fabric if a real GT existed for it. Of all the Fabric-only mods I've tried, MI is definitely my favorite. It's not GT, but I can't blame it for that, it never tried to be.

Maybe it's a good idea to create GregTech on fake versions to make players aware that the last real version of Minecraft is 1.12.2 and that they need to play GregTech?
Of course, we will give such a project to people who will be able to do it

There's no Greg in the name... Therefore ≠ Gregtech

Have you heard of a mod known as hbm's nuclear tech mod? If I had to describe it, it's like gregtech but everything (including your machines) wants to kill you.

I have gotten to a point where I can only play either vanilla or proper GregTech pack, nothing in between

I stopped being excited for any new ports of gregtech. More than 8 years in and still nothing beats 5.09.31. Why bother with versions above 1.7.10 just to have inferior experience? GTNH might still have problems, but at least it has some resemblance of balance unlike most 1.12.2 (nevermind later) packs which allow you to just skip the entirety of gt power gen for "better xmod experience" or have similar issues. It is in these moments when you understand why reika has such a restrictive license, although that is just another side of the extreme.
I know we will get a good port at some point, but maybe this effort would be more useful if directed at polishing what already works. Especially considering that almost all of the new qol features from the newer versions have been backported to 1.7.10 for a while. The updated NEI is the most noticeable one, the bookmarks are much more convenient than in JEI and have an in-built calculator-like behavior. At the moment the GTNH devs are even making it possible to run 1.7.10 on modern java versions (already available but not perfectly stable yet).
Anyway, genuine question, what does 1.12.2 have that 1.7.10 does not? Especially considering that it is now relatively just as ancient in terms of release date.
