Physics - Adobe Character Animator CC Tutorial

Adding physics is a great way to give extra motion and life into your characters and scenes in Adobe Character Animator CC. In this 3-part tutorial we'll cover the fundamentals by walking through an example project (free download below). First, Basic Physics will show you how to make colliding shapes through the dynamic and collide tags. Then we'll show you how to make things like hair and drawstrings automatically sway with your character's movements in Dangle Physics. Finally we'll create some rain and cannon particle systems that collide with an umbrella.

Really love the training sample format you have going on. It will make things so much easier when I forget how to do something!

You are #1 watch you videos over and over. Have learned so much. Thanks.. keep them coming.

One of the biggest challenges for me working in 2D is the planning and juggling of layers to prevent clipping, and even then, adding dangling physics EASILY breaks this.

It's frustrating to not be able to collide dangling physics objects with other layers, or even have a simple workaround like a Handle Tool that can be tagged as collidable so it can be used as a hard boundary before intercepting with other layers, and causing overlapping issues (or being covered up).

This is probably my most requested feature so far in CH, simply because it would solve a significant amount of layering issues with more detailed puppets.

Thanks Dave. This is an awesome tutorial, and at a level of detail that really helps. And double thanks for this great physics engine improvements!

Dangle Handle! That should be a country song. Thanks for making things easy!

Cool! I can now make various weather systems and all that!
I have a question btw, I did everything as you stated but switching that mode to cannon didn't make the effect happen....I can't quite figure out why

Amazing tutorial. I thought the old videos are not relative anymore but they use very useful for beginners.

Maybe we can do money 💵 rain using the particles physics and maybe we can add dangles to the notes to represent thr gravity while falling?
Worth trying

I have been looking for an easy and economical way of creating a series of a 6 minute puppet animations to use them as supplements for teaching kids, and now I see Adobe CA is making it possible. I really loved what I saw. The only thing I am concerned about is rendering time using a single but fast workstation. Did any one tried rendering puppet animation on a single computer? If so, would you share your experience regarding to rendering time and related issues you had encountered?

Dave you are awesone, I appreciate you and all the work you do and have done. The download link to this tutorial isn't working. Is there a new one? Thanks

Thanks for the video!
Why the objects don´t touch? there is like empty space when they collide, kind of they have an invisible stroke around.

Hey Dave, love your tutorials, they are mad helpful. Is it possible to to make a sound on impact from a particle to what it hits?

Hi Dave, thanks for your great job. As in your video, the borders of the layers don't touch each others. There is always an empty space between the objects. How can I do to join (or attach) two levels preciciouly (without empty space in the midlle)? I saw that this happens when you apply the Tag "Collide". Thank you very much

Hi Dave,
is it possible to combine the dynamic collision with the dangle function? I was wondering if this would make an object squishy/wobbly when hitting something. Whenever I add a dangle point the object loses its gravity and stays at its place. Is there some kind of workaround? Best regards from Germany

Thanks for the tutorial, really nice stuff. Is it possible to make hair and other such dangling objects to interact with walls and other objects? I tried doing that and it looks like it can't be done.

you are amazing. Thank you very much :)

Can we designate a handle as an emitter for particles (i.e. a flame throwing hand that moves around)? Or is this only doable through cycle animations? Thanks

your tutorials are descriptive, can serve as a guide but difficult to understand for beginners.
