Been really struggling physically and its only getting worse (stupid disabilities XD) all the hobbies I had before arent safe/cause too much pain but I found i can mini paint! Brought a Skaventine box and have spent every second I've been putting them together watching/listening to your videos! So thanks for being my build buddy and providing a bright light during this awful time 🧡

Oil Painter here,

I wanted to make some suggestions to make your oil painting experience much more enjoyable and clear up some things.

1. Oil paint itself is not toxic or harmful unless ingested. its the MEDIUMS and SOLVENTS used that can cause the adverse health effects.
As long as your not covering your self in oil paint, eating it, or inhaling oil paint dust, its very safe to use.

2. There is water soluble and Solvent free mediums and products you can use.
Check out Gamblin's solvent free mediums as well as Windsor and Newtons Water mixable Oil paints / Mediums to have a completely solvent free and safe studio.

3. Use "Old Masters" brush cleaner and you won't need to use any solvents or OMS to clean you Brushes.

4. Try doing your base coats in acrylic then finish up with Oils.
This allows you to get the best of both worlds, great coverage and fast drying acrylics, then finish with oil painting and enjoy all the blending and glazing you can do with oils.

Great Videos as always and hope this helps!

He discovered Newsh! Absolutely adore the stuff. It's doesn't require special kit, ventilation, anything. Q-tips are great for buffing it for smooth transitions; ratty old brushes for a bit rougher. A wet brush is great for streaking effects... Been using it for about a year, and don't regret it. Probably wouldn't have had the guts to tackle projects with big surfaces, like tanks, without it.

I think the thing about oil paints is that you should use the right tool for the right job. There are many artists that can stuff work like "oil paints only", "airbrush only" and obviously "acrylics only" like it used to be. Use oils for recess shading, blending skin, OSL and do the rest (edge highlighting, texturing, details etc) with acrylics. 0 problems with that approach

Just picked up the Mega set from Monument Hobbies and a bottle of Newish and the Glaze medium. The glaze medium, mixed with a bit of Valejjo Flow improver a few drops of water and ProAcryl paint makes and amazing speed paint.

Mended brush studio has really in depth oil tutorials. Oil paints aren't just about the reductive technique of slopping it on and pulling it off.

I agree, I dislike oils for many reasons. Newsh is amazing, I highly recommend using it with an airbrush on terrain. Also love how easy it is to grime up armor as you demonstrated. Loved how you included the water tip, as it does change the consistency of the mix and is useful when dealing with different textures. I only wish it was cheaper or we got more for the price. Can't wait for other brands to compete.

The intro to this video is exactly what i feel when i see you doing masterpieces with airbrushing. I literally can't go 10 minutes without clogging my aibrush and my models would look better if i used spray paint.

Jay you should try something that Scale Modellers use called Florywash! It’s clay based and can be wiped away, used for panel lining and weathering

Nice that you used it on more than just the typical recess darkening like oils, especially mixing it with the range of colors and even the ink.

Looks good! Hopefully it will be easier to find in the future.

Thanks! I've considered grabbing a bottle, this is a good nudge.

Your 2 best tips for me are trying inks with Newsh & clipping makeup sponges to keep using them. Those shoulder pads turned out great!!! I have used oils for a leather longcoat that turned out amazing, but I don't know that I want to use oils every time. I have used Newsh but did not care for results. I need to experiment with it but no it will not be a replacement for oil blending. I have JoSonja's Magic Mix & brush soap. I usually use retarder if I need to extend paint time, but I will try MM. I use Contrast medium and Pro Acryl paint medium the most.

The mini witch, Lyla, did a video on Newsh. There are also Pro Akryl tutorials on it as well.
