Ranking 50 Romance Anime From BEST To WORST (Tier List)

Today we’re doing something DIFFERENT! I’ve been speaking about a ton of romance anime so today we’re ranking 50 romance anime from best to worst.

Here are the tier rankings:

S tier means the anime is a MASTERPIECE, and my personal favorite.
A tier means the anime is a must watch, and I enjoyed it a lot
B tier is about good anime shows that are just good but don't have anything special.
C tier is for anime I didn’t like very much, but enjoyed a little bit, and has a good sized
audience that likes it.
D tier is about shows I didn’t like
F tier shows are stuff you SHOULDN’T WATCH!

As usual these are ranked based on my personal preference. Romance anime is grouped alphabetically so it’s easier for you to skip to a specific section.

Love is War broke the charts in season 2 for me. Its my favorite anime along with my favorite cast in anything, they did so damn well, I'm watching the movie on Valentines and I can wait to see the Ice Kaguya arc animated

Not my all time favourite but I thought Real Girl is worth a mention. For one thing, they get together almost immediately. Also, Quintessential Quintuplets.

ReLIFE is really underrated. Even though it would be a B tier in romance but romance is not the main thing in the anime, it's about the changes that happen when you start to become an adult. Even though I read its manga before its anime, I may be slightly biased about it. But manga is definitely an A.

Golden Time is my favorite romance anime. The ending was a little farfetched but related to me having been in college at the time, also it had some of the best character dynamics and all the relationships including the side character friendships felt so natural and not forced at all.

Unpopular opinion: Toradora is highly overrated. The entire premise of the story falls flat on its nose if the people would just talk to each other. How do these people not know who their best friends have a crush on? The first half of the show is migraine inducing. But apparently all the obvious flaws can get swept away because of the one scene, which admittedly is a good scene, where taiga is in the bed sheet and they start making out. But how they got there was the result of absolutely terrible writing.

HoriMiya is S Tier.
More than a married couple but not levers is B or A Tier Atleast.
My Dress Up Darling is A tier.

I dont think more than a married couple is C tier its atleast A tier for me because in releases perspective the episodes were designed perfectly and rent a girlfriend D tier omg atleast see the reviews and how many audience like it compared to others lol.

A recent romance is Kubo-san Won't Let Me Be Invisible--very sweet slow burn slice of life romance. There's also Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You, where they start off getting married then learn to love each other. An S Tier romance is Taisho Otome Fairy Story. And you left out Tamako Market and Tamako Love Story. I'm also sad that you didn't mention A Silent Voice or Hyouka. Both of those are my personal S-Tier favorites.

Hachimitsu to Clover / Honey and Clover (very relatable)
Higashi no Eden / Eden of The East
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou / His and Her Circumstances (classic)
Kodomo no Omocha / Child's Toy (a classic)
Koi wa Ameagari no You ni / After the Rain
Lovely★Complex (seriously, why is this one not on the list, it's so good and one of those anime you can rewatch and enjoy it just as much as the first time)
Net-juu no Susume / Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Ore Monogatari!! / My Love Story!! (a must watch because it's not the hot guy who is the focus but the ugly best friend of him)
Tsubasa Chronicle / Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE
....just to mention some...

I honestly think it would have been better to exclude (reverse)harem like Love Hina, Rent a Girlfriend and Diabolic Lovers, since it focuses more onto comedy and fanservice than actual romance. and Shoujo Ai should not be included either, UNLESS you include Shounen Ai too (best examples Sasaki to Miyano & Given - those 2 are actually worth watching even for heterosexual guys, because they don't go all edgy onto the r-train like older BL anime).

Anyway since you mentioned (reverse)harem anime, I wanna mention: Amnesia. It's an anime which comes from a visual novel. Back when I watched the anime, I was a bit like 'dude wtf' but I actually played the game the past days and holy shit the final route with the conclusion of why certain things happened actually made me cry. It hit me right in the feels. And up until now only 1 other VN (or game in general) hit my feels so hard to make me cry: Ozmafia (also the anime adaptation had barely anything to do with the VN and was worthless for ppl who didn't play the VN before).

Yes! Cannot recommend Saekano enough! At first, the show seemed okay, then you get hit with the S2 then the movie and it’s just the best! Katou is best girl!

At first I thought action and Sci-fi anime would be all I needed, then I watched Toradora and now I know the joys of romances done right, and wrong too lol. Only thing I’d move is married couple, it was A tier for me

Watched to see your feedback on Fruits Basket and you said it’s the best romance anime and Tohru and Kyo are the best couple. Enough said. Best story ever, favorite manga ever, and the full anime completes my heart
