Whoever thought of casting Nicolas Cage as Dracula deserves a raise!

People often make fun of Nicolas Cage's acting style, but for movies where you need a character who is over the top, ridiculous, or insane it works out well.

You missed my favorite joke of the movie, when Dracula shows up to Renfield’s apartment Renfield acts surprised as to how he got in but then he looks back and notices a mat that says “welcome” in front of the door

The bug thing is actually a canon part of the source material. In the Dracula book, Renfield is a patient in a mental asylum who claims that he will get his masters' powers, if he consumes the life of other beings. He starts with bugs but later on escalates to mice and kittens

Renfield eating bugs is a direct tie to the novel! His character eats roaches in the asylum where he’s kept 😊

One of my favorite scenes is when Renfield asks the scorched Dracula, "are you alright?" and Dracula has been reduced to a match head with eyes and simply says, "NO."

It wasn't just cheerleaders. Dracula said something like, "a loving couple, some nuns, or a busload of cheerleaders." Renfield sits down to eat, looks up, and spots a loving couple, some nuns, and a busload of cheerleaders pulling into the parking lot and entering the restaurant.

Small funfact: the flashback-sequence isn't only inspired by old vampire-movies, these scenes are literally taken out of the 1931-Dracula movie with Bela Lugosi, just with the two Nic(h)olas'es taking over the spot of him and Dwight Frye. It's pretty sweet and one of the reason I love this movie way more than I should, it really feels like someone appreciates the old universal monster-flicks the same way I do.

This plot has its holes. Every story does... But that scene in which Dracula tries to turn his abuse upon Renfield in his apartment was nothing short of tragic. Seeing that process of someone who's spent years and years beating you down, only to turn around and tell you that it's your fault is terrifyingly accurate. Narcissists and abusers will always either deny or rationalize their abuse.

This movie isn't amazing in any traditional sense, but it's incredibly relevant and impactful to a lot of people who have had relationships like this. Whether it be with romantic partners or even parents.

She knew where the switch was because Teddys mom literally closed the blinds and put it on the table right in front of her lol, also it was marked. Also they defeating Dracula was a process. I think ending with a protection circle was perfect to cap off the movie and then finding it on tumblr is hilarious

I really liked renfield, I found all the old timey vampire rules to be hilarious such as the welcome mat letting Dracula in and such. I also really liked the comic book style violence just being so over the top and comical. The only part that kinda killed it for me was the gang being kind of surface level imo. Nicholas cage as Dracula was a god tier choice and we need more of it. Overall a good movie and I will rewatch it for sure.

My fiance and I love this movie. The whole metaphor of being in a toxic, abusive relationship was so spot on for us as we both have been in a relationshit before.

i kind of wished you talked a bit more about nicholas hoults performance, he does a very good job playing a character who we have to feel sorry for, his comedic delivery is very great, he manages to make me care for awkwafinas character solely because of how much he cares for her and his chemistry with nic cage is amazing, they really manage to make this movie work and you can tell that both of them really cared, i hope they will work again in other projects because i really enjoyed the two nics together

Nicolas Cage is honestly one the best actors out there, even if he's in a bad movie he gives it his all. And when he's in a good movie, he makes it amazing

So fun trivia, they actually wanted Nic Cage to act like Bela Lugosi Dracula and match all of the possible scenes and mannerisms. I think he fucking nailed them

Nicholas Cage being in this movie is the only thing that could make up for the fact that Aquafina is in it

I wish someone loved me as much as Elvis loves Nicolas Cage.

I went to the theatre not knowing what to expect and I was blown away by how much I loved this movie. So funny and good, it really deserved so much more love but I think it was just a poor time of year for a spooky movie release? It’s like a perfect movie

I love the trend of making movies specifically for Nick Cage, I don't know if this is the case here but it feels like it for sure, he is his own genre, amazing.
