The Hilux that made it to the North Pole still drove all the way there. It was a back up vehicle they drove along side. There was also a pair of black Hilux that the camera crew uses

the only difference between the backup and the one driven by clarkson and may.. the drivers, the backup was not driven idiots so it got there without any issues..

The "backup" Hilux also drove all the way, from start to finish; it just wasn't filmed for its entire journey. They didn't swap out the trucks they only used footage of two different Hiluxs on their voyage.

Fun Fact: The other Hilux was also taken on a volcano by James May a few years later, hence breaking the record of a single vehicle driving in extreme temperatures.

Well, they didn't lie, that backup Hilux wasn't transported by air freight, it drove the whole way.

Actually 4 trucks set off, 2 red ones Hiluxes, 2 black ones (Land Cruisers, but for the camera crew and other equipment) all 4 made it to the end just that the damaged one arrived a few hours later after some repair work had to be made.

The backup hilux also made the entire journey in tandem, it didnt magically spawn at location. So it did infact make the journey.

There were multiple Hylux's that made the trip. They mention it in the episode where James goes to the volcano.

When I was like 10 I realized that in some scenes there was an emergency hammer thing like they have on a bus to smash windows on the headliner. And in some scenes it was missing

there were 3 other hiluxs that made it no issues, and the one that was damaged still made it eventually. Its a beast of a pick up.

they also used the backup truck in an episode where James went to a volcano to get lava, though i think he called it the crew's truck.
