Independent record labels vs major labels is the battle that most artists have. Each have their own pros and cons, but mostly it is up to what you want as an artist. You have to know what those pros and cons are and the only way to really know this is through educating yourself and find out how and indie label or major label can help you.

Each has it's own benefits, but you should join what is right for you. A major label usually wants to mold you into what sells in the industry. Do you want to be molded? or do you want to be you? Major labels know the industry and can help you reach the right ears, but sometimes their deals aren't always clear especially if you don't know much about the legal aspects of the music industry.

Indie labels are a bit smaller and you can have a bit more control of what goes on, most times. Unfortunately, indie labels may not have enough traction to actually know what sells and may not have had enough success or artists to try different things out. You may be the one they use to try it out on.

Before you join a label, be sure to understand the legal aspects of how the music industry works. Never let the money be the only thing that guides your decision. Morals, ethics, consider what/who you are as an artist/brand and let that assist/guide your decision. Believe me, it's worth it.
