Heart Month / We can use National Heart Month as an excuse to provide education, improve workplace safety and teamwork as well as combat employee burnout.
YouTube is full of examples like these that can be used for a variety of educational needs.
For Human Resource Managers:
- Use videos for context and have your team simulate discussions about aging employee populations.
- Have your teams consider their current on boarding practices. Are we training people were to find automated external defibrillators (AED)? Documenting the training?
- Do the employees know the signs of a heart attack?
- How are your leaders performing when under stress?
- What procedures do you have for a Family Medical Leave Act FMLA) request?
- Do your employees have advanced directives?
- Does your team know what forms are needed and how to fill them out?
- What accommodations in the workplace should you provide?
For Medical and Other Educators:
- These videos are an incredible attention getting step, provide the context for discussion or simulation
- What are the risk factors, signs, and symptoms of heart disease?
- Can your team locate and operate the defibrillator?
- How do we fill out a Family Medical Leave Act request?
- What do we do if the patient has an advanced directive?
- What documentation do you require to honor an advanced directive?
- Don't forget the co-morbidities!
