I sold and used those cameras. They don't make "old " looking photos unless you process them that way. They made normal looking photos because that's what people wanted then just as they typically do now. The sensors weren't as advanced as cameras today but they were fine.

The canon powershot G series is so underrated and are overlooked because of the GX line. Even the G cameras with the CMOS sensors are gems, not just the CCD cameras. Look around and you will find a cheap one of these because influencers have popularized other cameras and thankfully not the G series of Canon PowerShot cameras 🙏🏻

CCD looks AWESOME. I have 3 ccd camcorders (3 of them) and they look beautiful, no jelly roll videos.

No processing artifacts, other than to make the JPGs. Noise was noise, not some splotchy watercolor effect at night. Textures such as leaves in the shade didn't disappear under the noise reduction algorithm. Not much else for advantages though.

Old CCD sensors look different because they had stronger bayer filters. Modern sensors have a much weaker one basically. They are low color gamut sensors and thay have color accuracy issues above tha SRGB colorspace. Old DSLRs with CMOS have nice colors too, for example 5Dmk1.

I found our old Canon G7 a few days ago. The only problem it has is that it sometimes does this weird effect, which I frankly quite like the look of. Too bad I can’t control when it triggers. Aside from that, it still produces wonderful photos. I bought a SanDisk Extreme 32GB sd card for it. Its been a fun week for me :)

Ccd sensors were awful and we were better off with cmos taking over. There’s nothing film-like about any digital imaging, except MAYBE foveon sensors
