This one is A GOLDEN SECRET OF TENNIS. PERIOD.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Few coaches understand this.

Very good work. Nice to see a coach understand the rotational biomechanics and relaxation of the arm and hand to generate even more power in the groundstroke. I like how you mentioned the hand and racket are delayed since a tennis stroke acts in a way analogous to a whip.

this is genius... i feel like modern coaches don't explain this well. i never realized how much the body rotation and that whip of the wrist affect the forehand. i love you.

@lockandrolltennis
everybody speaks about "hips pre-rotation" (I don't know the english term, I'm translating the italian "anticipo d'anca") but nobody has shown it so clearly.
Of course the tech of every shot doesn't finish here, but the "lock and roll" is really the foundation of modern tennis shots (i.e. the forehand and the 2H backhand).
I also like how you explain the cross steps in all the approach-type and in-movement shots.
You make it look so easy, flawless and nice to look at!
Thanks!

MAN you rock, hitting that ball seems so simple. It is crystal clear. The poor old wall at the club will now suffer my shots.

By far the best explanation I've found of forehand "lag" and forehand in general. Thanks!

i've seen the original video years ago, and yet i was still having trouble doing the weight transfer and using too much arms. but last week i had to try teach someone how to play tennis, and i used this technique and finally got it myself how to do it. teaching someone is a great way to learn something, i figured out. this mr myagi drum thing really works, thank you for sharing it

Brilliant! One of the most informative teaching segments I've ever seen explaining the difference in average players and great player! Amazing lesson... now to apply this knowledge! Thanks

You nailed it! This is Golden Secret of Tennis and MMA Boxing, too. MMA Boxers talk about "Rubber Leg" when asked how they hit using a leg, with such deadly speed and "power". So, in tennis, it is "RUBBER ARM"! No "power" required. Only a "whip" action, or a "sling" action, to achieve greatest speed. When people talk about "power", it incorrectly implies "force", which is absolute evil and it is not used: not in tennis, not in MMA boxing. We use "whip", "rubber arm", "rubber leg", like your nice demonstration of these strings. MMA boxers (and tennis players) are actually Balerinas, but they do not call themselves "ballerinas", do not mention the word "Federer as graceful as ballerina", because they do not want to be called "faggots", "weirdos", but they actually perform nicest ballet action, swings with "whip" action.
Now, combine this with YouTube's "Essential Tennis" Forehand lesson, which teaches you how to achieve the spin and make ball go over the net using SHOULDER, and you will pretty much know everything about how to hit ball in tennis.
And one more thing: because of the "Rubber Arm" concept, we now understand that in tennis everything below the elbow, down to fingertips is PASSIVE, does not play any part in tennis. That's why you have to run away fast from those people who mention "door knob turn" wrist twist to achieve spin. That is a no-no in tennis: wrist does NOT play in tennis. If you use wrist to play in tennis (except for serving perhaps, and it is not a "door knob twist" movement of the wrist in that case, anyway), you will end up with horrible pain for the rest of your life, and will never be able to play your favorite game, ever again.

My coach asked me to have a "bend" wrist when contacting the ball. I tried to force my wrist to bend everytime w/o succeeding. Now I know it's because I was using only my arm when trying to hit a forehand. It's actually the twisting of hip that brings the arm and wrist. Great video! It really helps a lot!

This is great man! so simple and relaxed... Tennis should not be complicated and hard to learn. Do you have drills to teach this in progressions? The best way I have found is to start people with no back swing. If you are tightening your arm and forcing hte shot your not doing it right.

Great job!  This is exactly how I try to teach the forehand and backhand to students.  With out the drum analogy that is.

it's also a cause of where the contact is made on the racket (notice it's the lower half of the racket, causing the twist in the racket)
