F111's dump and burns were basically part of Aussie culture...you saw them at the airshows, the V8's / INDY Racing, Air Force Open Days and so much more, the crowds loved them.

I miss them :(

I remember seeing the F111's at a Fire Power Demonstration In Nevada. They come in over the mountains, hugged the deck, and dropped bombs on tanks sitting on the desert floor. They came in with their wings swept back, outracing the sound from their sceaming engines, and pulling up as the bombs left their wings. The whole run lasted about 5 seconds. If we hadn't been told where to be looking, none of us would have seen or heard the 111's, until after the bombs went off. It was a great aircraft.

Barksdale AFB (circa 1984), evening twilight, we were stuffing a drag chute into its compartment on the tail end of a B-52(G) on the parking site adjacent to the runway, when a visiting F-111 was taxiing out for take-off; we decided to take a break for a minute to watch his glorious departure.
We were not disappointed.

That's incredible! Would you be okay with me featuring this in an episode of Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description.

I used to live near RAF Upper Heyford. Seeing the F111s flying over all the time was an amazing sound throughout the 80s and 90s. This is a great video though.

I was on the beach at Fraser Island (Queensland) as a boy around 30 years ago.  Suddenly, maybe 50 feet up 2 huge F-111s flashed silently over the top of us.  Then the boom arrived.  It as a damn impressive thing.

How can 350 people not appreciate a superb aircraft such as this and performing such a fantastic stunt?

I worked on the F111's so sad to see such a great aircraft be retired . I was an inspector of the radar systems that was being made in the mid 80's to bring them up to date with solid state  electronic war fare items as in radar .

Incredible ! Some great cam work to, a great steady view. Last time I shot an F-111 (G model, former FB-111) was at Harlengen Tx CAF show in 89, got some good pix. But they never did this at American airshows. Magnificent.

What a great aircraft! It's such a lasting tribute to RAAF personnel that they kept the 'Pig' flying for over 40 years, and still it was one of the key 'weapons' in Australia's defence.

I was lucky to see 3 F111's fly over Sydney Harbour doing this on the night of Australia Day 1988. They lite up the night sky like it was broad daylight. Truly

I've seen F1-11s do the dump & burn display at the warbirds over wanaka airshow here in new Zealand several times and have always enjoyed it. I think this is an amazing and graceful aircraft to

The F111 is no longer used by the RAAF or any Air Force for that matter, and yes it has been replaced with the F/A-18F. type in F111 final flight and it will show you news reports and so on.

My best friends father was a air force pilot, He said its used when you land on an aircraft carrier you dump excess fuel to minimize the severity of a potential fire.

I read your comment and looked up the details of CO. I always thought that like CO2, it was just an asphyxiant. You're 100% correct. CO reacts with hemoglobin and displaces oxygen. The bond between CO and hemoglobin is also 200 times stronger than hemoglobin and oxygen, so the body can't readily remove it - hence why its a poison.

As for soot, I meant smog.
