How I find wild clay and temper, and turn it into functional natural pottery. In this video, I make a style of oil lamp that can burn solid or liquid fats, like wax, grease, tallow, lard, or any oil. Thanks so much for watching!

For pots that will be used for cooking over an open flame, firing to 1000-1100 degrees max is better because the clay remains porous enough to withstand uneven heating without cracking

The tallow in the lamp can give an ointment for chapped skin or a lube for the top of a fire starting
spindle. It can also be used for food. A small amount can give energy pretty quickly in a survival
situation that might be enough to let you keep on until you spear enough bottom suckers to set you right.
This video provides enough information to begin making pottery with confidence.

Gotta say man, LOVEing your content. It's honestly the first survival/homesteading guide channel that really makes it easy to understand and follow along, unlike many other channels that have this inclination that they somewhat expect you to know some things.

Awesome video, I made a lamp similar to this for a Viking camp I went to. I also made one that was easier to cook on by making a bowl then folding it a bit so it was more triangular. I laid a wick in each of the corners and filled it with tallow. It seemed to burn well but it went through fuel pretty quick

i've been making hollow wick holders and using hemp cordage for wicks. you can make it burn smoke free by filling the lamp higher so less wick is exposed. i just keep adding until it stops smoking. i use vegetable oil mostly and occasionally lard because i live in the land of fried everything and get a lot for free.

What i think would be really interesting is if youd be able to make some of these but the post in the middle is hollow so you can stack multiple together for transportation

Super awesome! I was messing around with candle idea based off common fuel sources.

Candle more like solid oil lamp. (What I made)

I’m going to mess around with some clay and try to make a lamp

Made a 'Birka Lard Lamp' from store bought air hardening clay last year. Smokes quite a bit but gives off a great amount of light.

I know I've found wild clay when I see that crackled texture and those angular chunks.

Is there a video talking about how to find the right clay/ how to identify it? I'm assuming generally near a water source?

Very good video. You answered all my questions as you went along. I cant wait to give it a try. I laughed when I saw your Azure Standard bags in the background. I have a few of those stockpiled as well.
