Emotional Intelligence has become a key word when it comes to working in teams and groups. Our life at work has never been more complex. Same counts for our feelings. Raquel Caballero is highly skilled in turning people into the best person they can be. In her talk she gives great advice about what it takes to develop true competence on an emotional level.

Raquel is focused on a key issue getting increasingly more attention in our society: Emotional intelligence. In her past she learnt a lot about Psychology, PNL, Therapeutic Theater, Appreciative Inquiry and many other fields both in theory and practice with young children and women. This lead to the foundation of her own brand Emotuner which helps teachers to improve their qualities, companies to transform negative interpersonal tensions and pupils to reach for their full potential. She sees Emotional Intelligence as a central tool which can prevent and resolve personal problems and as a valuable instrument in order to make the world a better place. And the best about it is: Everyone can learn it…if you dare!

Quick synopsis...
Using emotional intelligence can help you to be the best version of yourself.. You are the main actor in your life..

Be aware of yourself, your state of mind, character and be conscious of changes of environment.
Two competances to develop best version of yourself are emotional and rational intelligence.

Think of a difficut situation form the past.
3 questions:
1. What did you learn from this situation.. (she learnt changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts is so important)
2. What kind of skills did I discover about myself? What skills were already there? (These help you to know yourself better)
3. Did this experience change your life?

Resisiliance is important. Develop compassion and commuincation. Morality, Creativity, Passion, Positive Attitude, Self Confidence, Forgive, Be Objective, Proactive, Sense of Humour, Main Goal, Flexibilty.

Method
1. Self management.. She was a manager in her 20's in a diffcult situation, feeling alone, employees against her and gossiping,

So she said I'm going to start learning about my emotions
-STOP RUMINATING (ALL THE NEGATIVE, FRETTING THOGUHTS),
-START OBSERVING MYSELF AND EMOTIONS (SHE HAD SADNESS, INSECURITY, FEAR)
Now try to change the thoughts for something positive - positive actions- dancing, talking to friends/family - then she felt more confidence-had more energy to face the challenges
SHE REALISED EMOTIONS ARE NOT POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE..THE KEY ISSUE IS, HOW WE MANAGE OUR EMOTIONS
DONT BE AFRAID OF YOUR EMOTIONS
TRY TO WALK AROUND THEM, LOOK AT THEM AND UNDERSTAND THEM

So, one day when employees were scrutinising her and gossping about her, she called them into to meeting room and presented them with a big cake, and said help me celebrate my birthday, enjoy!..(she did this sincerely) It worked!

2. Share the method with my team - Shared her douts and vulnerability with your team/employess.
It's called Resonant Leadership. Can develop more sincere realtionships with your team. It was very successful. In her job, eduction, business and training others.

So the Method is:
1.Start working on your emotions/self management
2.Share the method with the team

Competence, resilience and self management changed her life and she's able to live her dream everyday.

She uses it to navigate her life.

Having connection with friends have helped.

Not necessarily just a method, so find your own way and feel free with it. The only way is to observe yourself and practice, practice, practice.. like an actor who has to rehearse a play. Then, you can use it in different areas, with family, friends, work. Develop empathy and compassion. Relationships are very important and we need each other.
Find your way of doing this and you will develop your emotional intelligence and become the best version of yourself.
Don't stop practicing and remember you are the main actor in your life.

Wow Rachel, not many are brace to make a speech to hundredths to thousands of people little to say I'm a foreign language. Given the fact that you were the youngest, the only female daughter, you had little to zero guidance and still became a female boss to all male associates is definitely impressive !

How can you change your life??

By deciding to change it… re-evaluate your perspectives, change the questions & language you use, think about what values influence you most & evaluate what rules you have around them. At any moment your life can change, yes from external things but also from you!!

Im sure her intentions was good but this talk isn't really beneficial to anyone. However there is one lesson we can all learn from her, its that we should all be confident & try our best even if it means facing failure. Because you "miss 100% of the shots you don't take" -Wayne G.

Her pronunciation and preparation weren't the best, but I have to admit that I could learn something today: convert your negative thoughts to a positive ones. Stop self-criticizing. :)

I find her English a little choppy at times. She seems like a really sweet person but I cant watch this whole talk it's too choppy for me.

"Share your method". What is that really suppose to mean? I think something was lost in translation. I think she may have been trying to say to be transparent.

Once in a lifetime you get the chance to speak at TED and then you talk for SEVENTEEN minutes but say so little. Wanted to stop after 5 minutes - I should've done it. I just could not believe how vague and tedious this was.

Prime example (min 6:48):
"Choose one [difficult situation of your life]. Only one." Okay... I got it... She goes on: "It's not so difficult to remember that difficult situation." May I ask why she knows that? Because she thinks that it's not so easy to remember easy situations? Just kidding... However, still a strange and moreover confusing statement of her.

"Okay, I want to you, I want to do 3 questions (?) about it. It's also (?) for you, no answer for me."

The 3 questions she "did" were:
1. What/Why (she said why) did you learn from this situation? [...]
2. What kind of skills (did) you discover about yourself? What did you discover was already there? [...]
3. Did this experience change your life? [...]

"I hope after these 3 questions you know more about what means (sic!) to be a resilient person."

My question: What the heck?

"I can offer you some improvements to for example develop your compassion or your communication, improving that things (?!) can be possible." It can? Wow, thanks for letting me know!!! I can only hope that YOU develop at least some compassion for your audience and hopefully also develop your communication skills. Most likely it just wasn't your day. And those were only 2 wasted minutes of 17 btw.

Suggestion: Please prepare more next time Ms. Caballero. Then I might be more convinced of your leadership skills ...
