Dm Penta Etude - Part I

Показать описание
1. What it is:
i. This is a Visualization Study
ii. It combines both Vertical and Horizontal Visualization
iii. Simultaneously we’re working on technique and vocabulary
2. Pré-requisites
i. It’s a good idea to have already worked on the 5 positions of the Pentatonica Scale, both vertically and horizontally.
ii. Know your 16th notes and triplets.
iii. Alternate Picking
3. Concepts/Goals
i. 2 nps Pentatonic
ii. Vertical Visualization + Horizontal Visualization
iii. 16th notes and Triplets
iv. String Skip…Challenge in terms of vertical visualization and technique.
v. On the last bar, on the string skipping part, there’s an implied polyrhythm whereas this melodic pattern of 4 notes is played in triplets…this could be a challenge both rhythmically, melodically and technically…isolate this bar, and work it out…then assemble it again into the whole etude.
4. Musical Notation
i. I Wrote this with metric modulation, that meaning the key signature is changing from bar to bar…not a big deal…we’re still playing this etude in 4/4.
My main goal with this was to highlight on the tab where the vertical and horizontal Visualization/moves occurs to a more easily recognition.
5. Things to do
i. Tranpose the study
ii. See Part II of the Etude
iii. I’m playing this through a minor blues context…I’m using a BluesJamtracks BT (BB King Style).
If you know your Penta Subs, you can apply this into a more sophisticated melodic/harmonic context.
Try:
Dm Penta(F) over F – F Ionian (T, 2, 3, 5, 6)
Dm Penta over Dm – Dm (T, b3, 4, 5, b7)
Dm Penta over D7 – D Altered (T, 4, 5, b7, #9) D7Sus4, D7#9
Dm Penta over Gm – G Dorian/Aeolian (T, 5, b7, 9, 11) Gm7, Gm9, Gm11
Dm Penta over Eb – Eb Lydian (3, 7, 9, #11, 13); EbMaj7, EbMaj7#11
Dm Penta over Bb – Bb Ionian/Lydian (3, 5, 7, 9, 13); BbMaj7, BbMaj9
Dm Penta over Cm – C Dorian (T, 5, 9, 11, 13); Cm6, Cm9, Cm11
Dm Penta over G7 – G Mixolydian(T, 4, 5, b7, 9); G7sus4 ,G9 Sound
Dm Penta over C7 - C Mixolydian(T, 4, 5, 9, 13); Csus4, C7sus4, C9, C7, C13
iv. Create your own “etudes” with this and others concepts.
That way your practicing your vocabulary constantly with new approaches.
