John was always singing or writing songs about social issues and domestic violence was just one of the causes he spoke up for. In the new biography about his life he mentions that he would never argue with his wife, he just wanted make her happy all the time. His wife Jill actually didn't like that he wouldn't argue with her and begged him to make sure he did argue if he didn't agree with her. I think they found a happy medium as they both are still totally in love with each other and still happily married over 50 years.

Well said George. Domestic/family violence and abuse is never okay and it is so sad to see how often it is happening.
I encourage anyone experiencing abuse of any sort to please seek help. It is out there. You are worthy and do not deserve to be treated that way. Nobody does 💕💕
One last thing, spot on, John is definitely a rainbow. A beacon of light in the darkness that can be our lives. I love him for what he has given me, and I know I am not alone.

John did chew gum while he sang. Also, at the time he was a 2 packet a day smoker. He said in his memoir that he smoked, he drank, he stayed up late, all the things he shouldn't do if he wanted to protect his voice. But he kept that voice into his 70's. Obviously this wouldn't work for everyone. He did eventually give up smoking (but not all the time), and he blames himself for his cancer.
