John is loved, loved, loved by Australia. He’s a genuine nice person and sings the socks of any song. He’s The Voice.

That’s why he’s known in Australia as the voice for decades. There’s an audio of John Farnham’s Led Zeppelin’s cover of Black Dog on YouTube only cause the sound engineer hit the record button. It was the band’s warm up song to play and sing before a concert to do a sound check. 😂

I'm 59 and am SO DEPRESSED that I didn't know of this AMAZING singer's existence until Celine Dion did a shout-out to him as one of her inspirations in her documentary last year. John's voice was phenomenal! Praying for his full recovery from throat cancer. John is in a class totally all by himself! Wow!

John Farnham has been singing professionally since he was a teenager. He has had a lot of years by this stage in his singing career. He was know as the King of Pop for a number of years, even before 1980's. His peak came in the 1980's when he sang like this.

I forgot to mention that he was very good friends with Olivia Newton John and they kind of have the same history. Both came out from England as kids and settled in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She came in about 1953 at 5 years and he came in 1958 or 1959 as a 9 year old. Both worked in the same Melbourne studios in the 1960's. Over the years they worked together. I loved them singing DARE TO DREAM at the Olympics in 2000 and of course working together in THE MAIN EVENT. John even kissed Livvie at the end of singing PLEASE DON'T ASK ME. They did an incredible duet. Sadly when she passed, not long after John had cancer in the jaw and had to have major surgery. He was very cut up by her death. He is known down here as THE VOICE. She always said John was her favourite singer.

Die-hard metalhead here. When I was growing up my mother was really into Farnham (and the Beatles, Neil Diamond, Air Supply, Barbra Streisand and others) and as I’ve got older they have all become guilty pleasures

High praise from a professional!! He has been singing in Australia since 1967 and the rabbit hole is very deep and to think that he is self-taught. No formal singing lessons and he credits his singing ability to his English grandfather.

You're right, no-one sings like that anymore. He is an absolute legend in Australia. An amazing singer & performer, and by all accounts a genuinely nice guy. We were lucky to have him in fine voice for so long.
