Lots of people use paraffin wax or bee's wax to lubricate screws, but there's a better choice. The wax used in a wax bowl ring for toilets works well. Chris shares the benefits and shows you how to turn an old deodorant container into the wax dispenser.

This would have been very useful information for me about a year ago. I built a rather large shed in the back yard from scratch and used a ton of screws. I may never build something like that again, but still I may find a use for this advice in the future.

In the shop, I just open my jar of paste wax. It is soft and ready to go. There are many things that work well: candles and bees wax. My dad often used a bar of hand soap. Thanks for sharing this video.

It is a great idea. And repurpose the used deodorant container is very cool manner to store and use it. Thanks.

I was searching for the use of microcrystalline wax to set screws when I found this solution... the bowl wax has about the same properties as microcrystalline wax and is a WHOLE lot cheaper. Thanks for the tip !

I had just thought of this idea a couple weeks back when I came across some old toilet seals in my attic - and for the same reasons expressed here. The use of a deodorant container makes sense.

Great Video, and an awesome "Tutorial" Thank You Very Much. I was looking for an inexpensive way to make my own screw Lubricant. Unfortunately Lowes doesn't carry a "Screw Lubricant" So now I know how to make my own, thanks to your channel.

equal parts beeswax/turpentine/boiled linseed oil. I originally made it as a polish/protectant for wood, but made way more than I needed, so I lube the screws with it.

It would've been nice to have a quick demonstration of how it acts with the screws.

I have always dragged the screw threads through a bar of Ivory soap, or a white candle.

I've used washing detergent (fairy et al) put a drop at a time into the pilot hole or just dip the first 3-4 threads in the liquid and you're ready to go. Another good tip for brass screws is to screw in a steel screw, of the same dimensions as the brass screw, then remove it BEFORE you coat the brass screw with wax/detergent and screw it in. Avoids those nasty brass heads sheering off..

What are the pro's associated with waxing your screws? This may be common knowledge, but I am fairly new in the woodworking community. Appreciate any reply.

You know that the sell just the wax ring minus the flange... and it's cheaper to boot.

Regular bar of soap works just as good and it's easier to keep in your tool box.

..just remember to put it in the toolbox or workshop and not on the counter with the deodorant...
