Nexus was discontinued with Nexus5. This phone is 'Google Silver' . Google just changed the name and called it a nexus. It is obviously not a nexus

I think the strategy was misguided on a consumer point of view.  I think Google should release 3 tiers of smartphone:  one under 200, one under 350, and a premium phone that is 500+

People keep forgetting that the reason Nexus 4 and 5 were cheaper, was because of LG. LG made the phones cheaper ... Go back to Galaxy Nexus that was from Samsung, it was $600 too when it came out. So Kudos to LG for making cheap phones.

The first commentator said that Google has doubled the price of their device. This is a 6 inch device comparable to the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus. The Nexus 5 is still available and might be updated.

First of all the size is similar to that of the note 4, and iphone 6+ despite the larger screen so there's that... But I'm getting a little sick of hearing everyone freak out about the price... Originally the Nexus phones were also over $500, it's only since the Nexus 4 &5 that they started being that cheap high end phone, and while yes that price bump sucks for those who have gone away from carriers and started month to month, but there is always phones like the moto G, or even the Nexus 5 (which is still being sold) for that.

While there hasn't been confirmation yet, the leak was that on ATT the Nexus 6 would go for $49.99 on contract, so if you're still using carriers then price isn't an issue. If the rumor is true I'd drop $50 on a Nexus 6 the second it's available whether it's 6 inches or not.

How could anyone have not seen the size increase coming? Big phones sell like hot cakes. While it's obvious tech reviewers (at least in America) prefer smaller phones, it's clear the market for large phones is growing here (we're a little behind the tech trends happening in Asia), and of course, the naming convention has been that the number indicates screen size... so you should have seen it coming. If it's too big but you want Lollipop, buy a Moto X 2013, it'll get Lollipop quickly and have all the same features in a more manageable footprint...

The "tech ninja" rant in short and frank was shit, Jaycee points were spot on, 3rd guy contradicted his 2nd issue about price, Joe thoughts were reasonable and Josh is a repeat of the "tech ninja".

The Nexus One is the first Nexus device and it was not based on "great specs at an affordable price". Last I checked none of us owns Google/Android nor started the Nexus program so its asinine or "asinten" as the "tech ninja" would put it to me that we think we can dictate what Google should and shouldn't do. The only understandable argument is the size because that's subjective and the price against other major readily available flagships is indeed competitive. All this ranting is only on the basis of the Nexus 4 and 5 masked with a lot of misinformation concerning the Nexus program.

In short, don't like it don't buy it, they're plenty other options.

The nexus 6 is going to be my first nexus device. I understand the main points that are putting people off from getting the nexus 6, personally the don't affect me as much as others. I think we'll have to wait and see

It's like MKBHD said, the moto X 2014 is like a nexus 6 mini. If you guys want a smaller nexus 6 just get that phone. It has the same design, build quality, 13MP camera, and stock android. I'm sure it still get lollipop very soon too. All it's missing is the 2k display, but it's also cheaper than the N6

Ok, the only thing i see here is ppl whining for the price in different ways. (no, im not rich and I cant effort it out of contract)
I am 100% there would be half or even less complains about the phone if Google make it same size for 400$.
But guys Nexus 6 is a necessary evolution (with a fair price tbh). As Florence Ion mentioned in one of pocketnow podcast, the phone is made for developers to do Big Phones USEFULL: improve multi - window, make APPs USE ALL the space a big screen offers in smart and useful way and not just bloat them as iOS/iPhone 6 plus looks now.
Oh Snap! You wanna smaller, cheaper Nexus? Bloody Hell, get damn Nexus 5 it runs perfectly with Android L and its awesome looking phone!

Guys Kev mentioned bigger phones due to the wearable relationship of android wear. Thw way I use phones has changes with the use of my watch. Personally A tablet slash phone is the perfect match for me. Browsing and consuming is what I do even more on my phone than calls. Texting I use my watch for. I do see the point of the negatives of carrying a phablet. But due to the progreesion in how I now use devices this will work for me. Without a watch..well thats a different story. I think this is a good talking point. We no longer just use phones. But miltiple devices together. I think google had that in mind with the nexus 6. Thankyou for the honest reviews.

I don't understand why people are complaining to much about price here in the UK at least the nexus 6 is still extremely underpriced compared to other flagships the note 4 its nearest rival is around £650 and the nexus 6 is rumoured to be £420 yes its more expensive than the nexus 5 but you want the top specs they're going to cost you also the screen is awesome in my eyes thats just the way phones are going now if you want a smaller phone just buy the nexus 5 its still a very competitive phone in todays market and it will be getting updates. The only thing pissing me of is googles manufacturing and distributing of the phone seeing as the launch of the nexus 5 was a disaster and many people including myself couldn't get one for at least 2 months after launch they should have learnt from this and sorted it out for this years release but its the same thing again the UK wont get the new nexus till december time which is just shocking.

It's the same fucking size as the iPhone 6 plus but with a bigger and better display. This thing is a beast and the perfect phablet to represent Android.

Deal breakers. 1. No removable battery. 2. No SD card slot. 3. Kinda big. I have the Note 4 and am verryyy happy.

Nexus 5 is still an awesome device and Google has been considerate enough to not discontinue it and sell it alongside the nexus 6. If you can't afford a nexus 6, then you should consider the nexus 5 which is cheaper and almost as smooth and snappy as the nexus 6. This change was necessary and considering the specs the new nexus phone has to offer, I think the price is just right!

Thoughts about pricing: 1. What the market will bear: Samsung (and others) flagship phones are expensive since they want to compete with iPhones and price their gear to match. Part of 'perceived' quality comes from price paid. If companies sell their phones too cheaply they will struggle to get the price = quality halo effect. So, a proportion of the all Android flagship pricing is because Apple has lead the market to expect to pay laptop prices for a phone. 2. Google's partners: Googles Nexus phones end up competing with their hardware partners, and I think they copped some flack over the Nexus 5 pricing. I suppose Motorola (and others) fought against that. From what I know about the business, I'd think that the Nexus 6 could probably be sold for $450-500 if it weren't for the above two. Just look at the price of the Nexus 9 and then ask yourself why any smart phone needs to be $700+? See 1 and 2. Fortunately there are now a lot of alternative 'flagship-spec' or almost flagship-spec phones to fill the hole the Nexus 6 leaves in its wake. Thinking about it, the Nexus 5 spec still makes for a great experience today as does the Nexus 4 (both of which are still going strong in this household).
