What to expect in a U.S. tax court when filing a petition.

If you have recently undergone an audit or examination, have taken the proper administrative steps to argue your case, but still receive a notice of deficiency or notice of determination that you believe is wrong, or if you have undergone a collection due process hearing and disagree that the appeals officer took all the appropriate steps and considered all of your evidence, you may want to consider taking your matter before the United States Tax Court.

Watch this video to learn more about what to expect from this process.

In 2011, I cashed out Mutual Funds and stocks, and I guess the accountant who did my taxes reported it wrong, because the IRS sends me big tax bill, that I paid although didn't owe any of it.

Now, I thought I reported everything correctly on my taxes for a recent year, but IRS states I owe an amount that again I don't owe. So i think, the IRS, this function of the gov, really is clueless about people's finances, and really only reacts to outside reporting agencies and doesn't do any research. This time I'm going to petition and not pay a debt I don't owe. Especially since I have no means currently to pay back what I owe. I'm over 40, I should be thinking about how best to earn a good retirement before time is up, and not worry about paying penalties for a small cashed out retirement that the irs thought I owed money on. And these people working for the IRS, they've got great retirement, not some lousy five figure payout from a user company. I felt so wronged by society and my country when I opened the mail and saw my tax bill. A taxbill from the same country I sacrificed my life to go serve for in the military, yet now, as they did then, they just slap a poor man in the face! It's so wrong.
