A little more backstory with the order in the story: the customer only asked me for the character itself, but did not specify any details. The black outline was simply a creative choice and unfortunately it did not go well! I always learned to ask for specifics down to the last minute detail after that one. Running a baking business (or any business!) is all about continually learning and streamlining.

EDIT TO ADD:

*I did not refuse to take another order again from the customer; they simply didn't order again--which quite frankly is understandable! Their critique helped me be clearer in my future communications as I mentioned above. I should have been more clear in my delivery of that in the first place, but I had no idea this particular short would garner so much attention, but I'm grateful for the views so thank you :).

*I baked these cupcakes from scratch and I bake all of my products from scratch. Someone donated a ton of these boxes to me which is why I'm using them up. They were useful for sending guests home with the extras.

Side note: my hair looks like this because I was getting ready for the wedding ;)

I would’ve kept her because she was honest. So many consumers accept unacceptable products to avoid conflict when in reality, conflict resolution should be practiced. If she was rude, sure but if she wasn’t happy, she had a right to say she wasn’t.

Anyhow, your channel is amazing, I’ve learned a lot by watching. Thanks for sharing

I'm seeing a lot of comments hating on the customer, but the baker fully admitted that her product wasn't consistent and had multiple flaws at the time. As a baker, it hurts to hear when someone is disappointed with your work, but when you charge a customer for something and then don't deliver on previous expectations that you've set then you just have to suck it up, wipe your tears, and try again. I've had to do it before and it was my own fault.

The baker in this video seems to understand and acknowledge that she had some issues with consistency at the time. So please y'all: there's no need to get defensive and hate on customers for politely advocating for themselves or expressing discontentment with something they paid money for.

Just a tip... I worked in a bakery. When u have alot of those plastic containers, place the bottoms in the top. That way they are closer together and u can put more on the table. Then simpley flip the first flap down and u can go straight down the line.

You poor thing, people can be confounding things to deal with. Every time I see these (beautiful) rose cupcakes I remember putting 60 cupcakes on the lid of clear boxes with the base forming a sort of dome. Very pretty and effective. Until someone flipped them all upside down because they thought the lid belongs on top. Must be 15 years and I’m still lost for words.

I don’t think you should’ve not accepted orders from the customer anymore. It was definitely a learning experience & a growing pain for your business. Imagine if she lied about how she felt. You wouldn’t of realized you needed to be more detailed when taking specific orders. Critique is to make things better. ❤

Honesty hurts but is a great learning experience. It is all in the delivery. However, I would’ve kept her business if she wasn’t rude. It was her money and you shouldn’t want to give them less than your best even if it hurt. Our eyes get over over worked and minds overwhelmed. Outside input is a need sometimes.
