That Jeep Cherokee really is bulletproof…only two known problems are cooling fan and oil pan weakness… 117k? Should go another 150k no problems

"The late 90s?" Yeah thats when vehicles were reliable

Keep the cherokee. 100%. Sell the others. They're not as reliable, not as cheap to repair and eat away money if insured.

Caleb that 4.0 will out live you if it’s been maintained.

Those 4.0L inline 6 engines are literal TANKS and will easily go 300-500k

Don't scoff at 90s vehicles. They're a lot easier to repair than the new junk that's coming out. That's great milage! My hubby's 04 Silverado has just under 400k and it's still going!

He right tho, that I6 with should last him quite a bit with regular maintenance, low-key jealous

That Cherokee is absolutely a good decision. That engine is one of the all time greats. They're cheap to fix, parts are readily available, and they're reliable.

If you can't fix cars yourself, don't have old cars. Old cars are only sound economic decisions if you can fix them yourself. Mechanics are WAY too expensive.

My father had that exact Jeep, maybe an even earlier one than '98. Did half a million miles in it before he got bored and sold it without any mechanical issues.

"Right now, the Jeep is at the mechanics"

A phrase uttered more than anything else

How are you in debt with these cars? They are like $1500 a piece. If that old school Benz is a diesel, you have a tank. I wouldn't sell any of them. They aren't going to make a dent in the hole that you already dug. While they are pretty bullet proof in good shape they are still old. Its good to have a backup to drive while you pay cash to fix the one thats down.

Nobody is talking about the Mercedes. The 80's Mercedes are incredibly reliable.

Old cars are great IF YOU WORK ON THEM. Don't freaking buy an old car and then take it to the mechanic every time something minor goes wrong, LEARN AND DO IT YOURSELF.

I was brought home from the hospital in a 1998 Lumina and ended up having the privilege to drive that ole gal until I was 22yo. Loved that damn vehicle.

Came to the comments to say good things about the 4.0. But all y'all beat me to it. Good job team 👏

“it’s very reliable”
“it’s at the mechanic rn”

How do you not comprehend that having a car down sometimes directly removes your income source. You literally acknowledged the not having a car wouldn’t let you work as a delivery driver. Make it make sense

SELL THE S10. Only problem with buying "reliable" older vehicles is that they are still over 20 years old. At that point, anything rubber has usually turned to hard plastic. But yeah if you replace all the gaskets, ball joints, etc that jeep will do 300k.

Caleb really doesn't know his cars... replacement parts for those cars are less than a fraction of monthly car payments...
