Recap: Inspiration vs. expiration

During inspiration (inhaling), the volume inside the lungs increases while the pressure decreases.

Key muscles involved in inspiration include:
- external intercostal muscles
- AND accessory muscles such as the sternocleidomastoid (SCM), scalenes, and pectoralis muscles.
Contraction of these muscles expands the thoracic cavity, increasing air intake.

During expiration (exhaling), the internal intercostal muscles and abdominal muscles contract, along with the latissimus dorsi (lats) if needed, increasing pressure and decreasing lung volume to expel air.

Great video!
