Awkward moment Zelensky puts NATO's Stoltenberg on the spot over providing F-16 jets

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky jokingly put the NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg on the spot on Wednesday (July 12) when the pair were asked about when Ukraine would receive the weapons and fighter jets it had requested.

Zelenskiy happily pushed all questions on when Ukraine would receive new weapons and also on their requests to join NATO directly to Stoltenberg as the audience laughed along with the two leaders.

Kyiv has said it needs long-range weapons to fight Russian forces in Ukraine, and Zelenskiy said he would raise the issue at talks with U.S. President Joe Biden. Zelenskiy reiterated assurances that the weapons would be used only on military targets in Ukraine.

Zelenskiy also asked Stoltenberg when Ukraine would be joining NATO after the leaders this weekws dashed Kyiv's hopes for an immediate invitation.

NATO: We will not be supplying Ukraine with F-16’s as they are currently not a NATO member? If things change about membership then we can reassess this request. However, the US is free to act on its own accord.
