I came here to learn how to invest after listening to a guy on radio talk about the importance of investing and how he made $460, 000 in 4 months from $160k, somehow this video has helped shed light on some things, but I'm still confused, I'm a newbie and I'm open to ideas.

Why is it that when you divide the total return by the number of years you don't get the avg. annual return?
For example, for the 10 years mark the total return is 52.71%. Supposedly a 5.271% aveg. annual return but the av. annual return indicated 4.32%. Does that take inflation into account ?

Was the first you including compounding interest as well? As in profits re-invested or was it just $200 invested excluding re-invested profit?

Great video and just more evidence depicting how easy investing truly is... Buffett always discusses investing in the S&P if that is all someone did, they would be just fine... I am a HUGE fan of continuously investing into the foundation of my portfolio which is split between VTI and VTSAX..

Thinking about doing this relatively short term of 5 years to save up for a house overseas. Will I pay taxes on all the money or only what I gain? Like will the 200 a month be taxed as well when I sell?

Calculations like this can be exciting, but if you factor in inflation, well, it can be deflating. If you assume an inflation rate of 3% over 30 years, the future value of $319, 076 turns into a present value of $131, 455.

You're failing to adjust for inflation currently at 8.5% if that holds your money would actually be worth less.
