I often start with "okay, its about the trip to the zoo, what have I collected?" and then I lay it on the page and space it out evenly and interestingly. Then I plan in extra space for text and other elements. And then I take a picture with my phone so I remember the placement. Now I can work on decorative Backgrounds and frameworks and work my way through the layers. This way I can plan what goes in front and whats overlapped :)

I appreciate the design tips. I’m trying to start a simple memory scrapbook for my mom (who has memory problems) and want it to be beautiful so she’ll look at it more than once but minimalist so that her brain isn’t overwhelmed.

My ‘pet hate’ is when creators throw loads of embellishments at a layout, including those with absolutely no connection to the story. I’m thinking of sloths, gnomes, and frogs 😂
