Never considered the effects of salt on the rack, thats a good point. Unfortunately there are quite a few things about roof racks you didn't mention at all. The impact on fuel economy, T-track fittings and other standards, the types of bars and carrying capacity. The genuine BMW bars you have are nice, but not particuarly aerodynamic, however, most of the wind noise I think is coming from the ski attachment or the bike, I have the same bars on my e46 and they seem quiet. Not being able to use your sunroof probably doesn't bother most people, since you are gaining some practicality. At least you can open it with this setup, some bar and box combinations wouldn't allow that.

The camera was wobby and even though it was a short video it was difficult to watch. You were recording while the beeping from the car was happening which also wasn't great.

I’m buying a 2019 740i, and I’m upset that it doesn’t come with the mounts OEM. My 2014 BMW 535xi GT had OEM roof Mount capability which was on a 7 series chassis. You forgot to mention that families on long trips, love the flexibility of having roof storage.
