Miranda Sinnott-Armstrong, postdoctoral researcher of ecology and evolutionary biology, was walking down Boulder’s Pearl Street in the fall of 2019 when a plant’s shiny blue berries caught her eye. A new study confirms Lantana strigocamara as the second-ever documented case of a plant creating blue-colored fruits with layered fat molecules. Study co-author Stacey Smith describes how the study came to fruition.
