Reviving my dying pothos | post-vacation plant vlog

In this plant vlog, I try to save my golden pothos that I almost killed by forgetting to water it before going on a vacation. The plant used to be bushy and green, now it is droopy and yellow... and here's how I tried to fix this underwatered pothos! My pilea depressa has also suffered some damage while I was away, and this post-vacation plant vlog contains some clips of me trying to help this plant as well.

You’re trash can is so tiny! It would drive me nuts trying to smash stuff in. Good job bringing the plantypoo back to life.

I go on long trips for vacation and work all the time. I use an Auto Drip Irrigation or an old water bottle with an attached water spike that always stay in my plant in which I refill when it is empty. I also have a sprayer for the top soil that I do weekly but my plant eats when in its hungry through automated water supply.

I am going on a 5 week vacation soon and don't wish to leave my thriving pothos behind. I researched every option available to keep them moist but most like self watering bulbs only last about 3 weeks. Hesitant to leave it to the care of others as I don't know if they'll take it as seriously as I do 😔

I grow my green pothos in water so it never lacks any of it. It is unkillable : I saved 5 dying cuttings that a tenant left behind for 4 months in an almost empty cup of rotting water, brought them home. I washed the rotten roots and placed them in fresh water. They were saved except maybe 1 or 2.

Then I moved the small cuttings into a larger pond 26 then 30 cm and they grew wild : up to 2m - 3m long, crawling all over the place, climbing up a decorative wood board and on the wall by itself with its aerial roots, almost making a vertical green wall

I trimmed twice and drastically the second time because it’s just invading the TV table even tho it’s in low light. Trim helped sprouting new shoots at the base and at the head so it doesn’t look so leggy.

I propagated some branched cuttings with aerial roots in the water and they grow roots within 5 days.

Even I don’t change the water for 8 months and the roots, the trunk were rotting, it was still thriving like nothing happened. I cut the roots and plopped it back into water and it grows new roots like nothing happened.

So in worst case scenario : if you can’t save a pothos in soil, propagate cuttings with aerial roots in water : it will survive !

I also cut the philodendron micans and lemon lime to move them into water cuz the roots of the philodendrons in soil just wouldn’t stop rotting and they keep dying. In water they survive.

I give them 3 grain of fertilizer in 5L of water and roots booster diluted at 10%, no more because the pothos doesnt appreciate high doses of fertilizer, the leaves start to burn. The Philodendron can take 50% dilution, no problem

I will switch soon to a fertilizer for monsteras, aroids that is suitable for hydroponics to feed them better.

Hope it helps

This happened to my pothos and I was so sad, had lots of vines that had grown to the floor. I finally got around to pruning it back and propagating a few new pothos. It still need to be repotted because it's rootbound sigh...so much work!

Take more pins to rap it around ull see baby roots on the joint make sure to put the on grown and water it will be short but in few months you'll have a fuller fully restored plant. Trust me it may not be long but sometime but it will look healthy and good. Also, I would keep all stemps in water they would have rooted

I was surprised and abit curious as to why you didn't take the time to propagate the stems you cut off...or threw away. Pathos are among some of the easiest plants to propagate. You could have rooted and plugged into the bare spots and before you know it you have a beautiful full plant again!

What I do is when I repot it I put soil & then coffee grinds that I use From the coffee pot & mix it together & water what it does is make it stronger the leafs &get more babies

My poor Golden Pothos! It has grown so well in my old apartment with none direct light at 74 to 75 degrees. Growing to be 5 feet long not bushy but hige hnad sized leaves. We had to move and it's turned like yours in the video.

I buried the bare vines after taking the yellows off into its own planter and still it's wilted leaves have not swollen to green like before. Not sure what to do.

Where did you get the shelf with the build in light? It is so cool! Love your video!

A year ago I had a single plant: tiny little crassula ovata.
Because of some circumstances I had to leave home for THREE months.
It was relatively cold in the apartment and the plant was not watered, so I dreaded I would come back to a corpse. Imagine how surprised I was to come back to an incredibly thirsty but living plant!
I watered it and in a week or so it regained its pre-abandonment state

I have a really bad pothis brasil, or gold..? I get it from my neighbor, in the baddest condition, I have seen..
totally dry out, brown dead leaves, I pull the away, than the yellow, pale curled leaves, I trow some also away, only now he's looking also very not happy, but on the vines are so so many nodes, I don't want to cut them for pruning again..
what is the best advice how I can save and care these love..? 🌿
I have to repot them, because the roots are near bij the end op the top, not into the middle, the vines, go straight to downstairs, it's a hell of a weight for the small part that Wil into the soil with roots..

Oh gosh glad i can upon THIS, I killed every pothos i owned out of ignorance and overcaring i was shookthhh when it ni spent all my days with the plant how come it died ? Well i learned that i used to move the plant alot in the room and apparently i shouldn't and overwatering, when it rained i took the plant outside and sometimes it rained everyday and i just did get the plants out everyday so i was killing the plant by putting in too much efforts
