Today we examine three of Gerber's fixed blade knives: The Strongarm, The Big Rock, and The Bear Grylls Survival Knife. This quick little video was shot as we waited out a thunderstorm over our homestead, in the hopes that we might get some valuable intel out to the prepper community.

The strongarm is my everyday carry. I keep it horizontal on my belt on my right hip for quick and easy deployment.

The baby is a cutie!

I don't think Bear Grylls (as a person) is a joke. He does have training behind him. It's just that the show producers add extra for the sake of drama and that extra is, in many cases, unnecessary in a survival situation.

Gerber has been around a long time. They have to have done something right. Thanks for sharing this and bless you!

I was goin to buy a LMF 2 but after I found out it's not full tang I got the strongarm. I have no proof if the strongarm is stronger but the idea seemed to be a better choice.

I have the strong arm on both of my plate carriers. They are a great budget option for sure.

I like the US made Gerber knives . I had just purchased a Gerber Prodigy it is similar to the Strongarm . I think the sheath on the Strongarm has more options as to how it can be mounted. The Prodigy is normally half serrated blade. The version I had is the straight edge . You can only get the tan straight edge at Walmart . They say Gerber isn’t going to make the Prodigy tan straight edge for Walmart anymore so once there gone there gone. Anyway I really liked it . I never got to use it . All I had done to it was put my edge on it . Then I put it back into the box . Later on my son wanted a fixed blade so I just gave it to him. I figured since it was 420 stainless it would be a good fixed blade for him. In a way I wish I would had bought him a different knife.
I have a Rat 5 for most outdoor uses. I just ordered a Buck GCK to ware on my gun belt.
The Buck is also made with 5160 high carbon steel. If I had to choose one the 3 Rat5, Gerber Prodigy or the Buck GCK. Of the 3 for a war knife / soldier knife would be the Buck GCK

Last time I saw Bear Grylls he had just fought a bear 🐻 with his bare hands and was actually grilling is on a spit. Bear grylls told me he has survived for 90 days on Mars during the winter without a spacesuit and just holding his breath, how incredible. And also when he was training in the SAS he had to swim 100 laps of a full size Olympic pool FILLED WITH FRICKEN ACID. Now that’s what I call a survival pro.

I just bought the Prodigy Gerber 420 HC Full tang, thick spine, do you think it would keep up with the Strongarm?

BearGrills has a Pro Model of his Gerber survival knive with upgraded steel, but the Strongarm is a very high quality fixed blade and it cost more but it tough as you would hope it to be for it's size.

I like the BG concept although I believe he is a complete knot head. The new version is about 30 dollars cheaper and thinking about getting one.

Another good video Bear. I plan on adding two of the Strongarms to my collection. One for the survival pack I keep in my Jeep when I am offroading and one in a more tactical style pack. Thanks for letting "Tactical Crankypants" be part of the video. Nothing wrong with a fixation on velcro. lol
