Canon 5D MK3 vs Panasonic GH3

Here's a quick little comparison about two cameras that filmmakers don't really shoot with much these days, but I thought it was interesting to see the quality difference in these cameras in two different price brackets.

Nobody asked for it, but sure is nice to see. I am in a phase of thinking about a upgrade from the EOS M so the next step was either GH3 or something from Canon. I do own a GH1 currently. I love the video but at low light its a garbage due to sensor issue like fixed pattern noise. THis way, I'm choosing GH3. I need a reliable workhorse with lot's of detail in 1080p. Will think about 4K too, but for now GH3 looks nice. Thanks mate, have a good one !

sold my gh3 on ebay last week. So underrated. it was SHARPER than my gh4 in 4k when using certain lenses, the gh4 is the same quality as the gh5. So for $350 you are basically getting the same quality as the gh5.

Great video! A comparison I have not seen before. You are correct in saying the 5Diii is really a photo-centric camera. although there have been many videos and films shot on it; I have shot many things, but to make it cinematic requires lots of extra gear to do so. If you are planning to buy a 5Diii new, just spend a little more for a C100, which is cinema-centric, waveform, peaking, zebras, 20, 000 ISO, best camera body design, etc..
Also, if you do end up shooting on the 5Diii, convert cinestyle picture profile to Prolost, by reducing saturation by 2; it gives you so much more latitude in post. The 5D is also a tank. That can be good if you drop it, but becomes quite heavy when filming all day (handheld or gimbal), especially with an L lens.

The sharpness comparison wasn't really fair though, the 24-105 lens is not really known for its great sharpness, especially wide open. And the GH3 had a prime. :D

But if you shoot 13bit raw with magic lattern, the 5Dm3 has cinematic quality far better than even a Bmpcc

Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm new to this whole video thing. What's native ISO? I thought that the lowest ISO will produce the least amount of noise.

Do you know the Blackmagic cameras ? I am hesitating between the Panasonic GH5 and the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera (this is a 4K model). Have you an idea ? I'm looking for a beautiful cinematic style with fine details (I film in macro sometimes, because I make woodworking videos).
