The 5D MKIII & MK IV kills the GH5 for photographic & low light work . The GH5 comes into it's own for video work. The colour pallet on the Canon eats the GH5 alive. The Canon produces beautiful balanced colour.

As a starter YouTuber who is just really getting into the game I mostly use my camera (g7) for video with kit lens however I recently just shot my own maternity pictures and they came out amazing. Not sure how a cannon compares but Panasonic menu was super simple and was not confusing. So I would agree for a all around camera gh5 just because it's so versatile.

I still think we need both. Some sort of Canon 6D or 5D and some sort of Panasonic GH.

I think the viewer should hold out for the Canon 6Dmk2 for stills capability. That would be a fairer comparison of stills ability with the new GH5 (with both technologies coming out in the same year and both hopefully in the same price bracket). At this point, I would not be surprised if the 6Dmk2 will blow the GH5 out of the water for stills. As for 4K video, who knows what canon will do here?

I'm a big GH5 fan, but at the end of the day you either have the m43 sensor look or you use a speedbooster and once you add in the speedbooster you lose smooth/reliable AF like you do with the 5D3 and a native mount lens. If you throw video into the mix the GH5 absolutely blows it away in every way - with a speedbooster it's like a 1DX II except the 4k files are a fraction of the size, it has IBIS (big selling point since it allows for nice handheld), an EVF, better screen that flips out, 1080 180fps up from 120, better battery life, less bulky, and more lens options... there is the downside compared to the 1DX II that it should still have a low light edge (GH5 ISO 3200 with a XL speedbooster can take you very far though) and easily outperforms with video AF

I think personally for stills photography at least the full frame sensor of the 5D3 will still outperform the GH5 quite comfortably all areas of iso even though it's older technology. However, if I had a choice between the two cameras I'd take the GH5 any day of the week because of the features and functionality.

I was disappointed to read the headline (typical clickbait if you ask me) and wait 8 minutes to find out there is no testing in the video.
What's the purpose of comparing 2 camera's by just talking about it? The only way to know is to actually have both cameras tested side by side.

Nice cap for moire evaluation, seems to depend on how large your monitor is.

Thanks for your video. I'm considering just this decision in the future. That full frame is hard for me to ignore. I love the fact Panasonic is pushing the envelope. Let's hope the others can catch up. Lots of great choices for us all.

How high can can you push the ISO on the gh5 and still get minimal noise in photos ?

IMHO, Canon has the edge when it comes to still photos. Canon's photos are way sharper with less MP at higher resolutions. Where Canon lacks is the video department. Most Canon cams don't have 4k, struggle with handling moire patterns, and overall clarity of footage looks softer. When it comes to features, the GH5 blows away Canon, but my concerns are will still photos be sharper than the G7, GX8 being that it has a new sensor, is there auto ISO in movie mode or do I still have to use manual photo mode trick, will the new dual IS lenses work for the GH6 or will we have to shell out more for newly designed lenses every time, will the future firmware fix the known 10-bit noise issue when compared to 8-bit footage at higher ISOs.

Nikon d610 or Canon 6d? which one is better for wedding photography as I am about to start my photography career. Is canon 6d worth buying now?

Thank you, selling my 5D3. Awaiting the GH5 reviews. More for video though. Sick of Canon lagging in prosumer video. Hey what brand/model glasses are those?

Completely agree. The gh5 is ahead of the Curve. 5D Mark 3 was awesome when it came out the cannon need to get into the mirrorless game! Something way better than the M5!

I love my 5dm3 for fotos, i loved my 5dm3 for video. Hoped for the 5dm4, but i was sooo disappointed, i bought the gh4. Really happy, now i ordered the gh5.
I think the 5d is still good for Fotos, but my videos i will do only with my gh5 (also i have the metebones, hope it will work fine with the gh5)
Greetings from Vienna.

I think what's being said makes perfect sense but for me the Gh5 gets the nod because it can do so many things and we have not yet touched the surface at what the Gh5 can do but I will use the Gh5 for both Video and Still photography and remember what your getting for the the price a revolutionary New Camera ahead of its time.

i have both. the gh5 with the leica 2.8 version lense 12-60. let me just say that, the speed of the focus (if you know on what to focus by tapping the subject etc.) its crazy fast.
the picture quality with the same lenses (if you use speedbooster metabones) is still better on the Canon. About video you dont have to talk. The GH5 just kills the 5Diii. You can get, if we look on 1080p, same or even slightly better results with an atomos ninja + 5Diii, the downside of that is of course extra equipment, havier, more battery carriage etc.
And lets face it, when the GH5 gets its FW 2.0 (4 days maximum from now on), you will get ALL-Intra 1080p60fps 200mbps. So the only thing then needed are fast 256GB SDXC UHS-II 3 for about 2.5 hours OR 5 hours, if you use continously recording instead of dual backup.
If you want semi-pro high quality video and you have to chose, take the GH5, even if you look at the 5Div, you will have more fun with the GH5.

The biggest point of Canon vs Panasonic in still photography field. In my opinion, is the flash support system. A lots of third party flash system such as Godox mainly support only canon and Nikon. So for me, not matter how good Panasonic is, the lighting is always come first especially for studio portraits. Panasonic is a no no.
