Sam Cooke is a 1950's singer who owned his own record company. He started the careers of several notable singers such as the Womack brothers and Lou Rawls whom you just heard backing up Sam in this song. One of our early entrepreneurs in the music business until his untimely death in 1964.

Obviously it transcends the test of time because listening to this song today brought me right back from where I heard it first! Now that’s really iconic!

Not only because I grew up in Mowtown. ( Yes, I'm old.) Quit laughing..
He did a song called "Cupid", which is what I used to hold my
grand daughter & dance with her in my arms when she was a baby.
She is 15 now & we till dance & sing to it every time she comes to visit.

Yes indeed, Sam Cook had a beautiful voice. Another one of his songs you'll surely love is You Send Me. And that baritone voice you hear backing Sam is the great Lou Rawls. They grew up as childhood friends singing in the respective churches of their parents. They were also classmates in high school. Sam and Lou also toured with a couple of gospel groups. Lou Rawls also had a remarkable career. React to You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine, Love Is A Hurtin' Thing and Lady Love. These are a few of his hits. It's another rabbit hole you'll love.

Sam Cooke singing "Wonderful World" was my favorite track for years. So many great songs from him -- "Cupid", "You Send Me", "Another Saturday Night", ... everything he sang turned to gold.

One of my all-time favorite songs by Sam Cooke. Wonderful World is an absolute classic, as is You Send Me, Having A Party, Cupid, Twistin' the Night Away. But the one that always gets me is Nothing Can Change This Love. But yeah, he could sing a cereal box and it would be gold. I keep 45 songs of his on my phone at all times. Not just anybody makes the phone, lol.

Sam was killed at the age of 33 (Dec, 1964) in a shooting in Los Angeles. The deep voice echoing Sam is Lou Rawls, another great voice.
