He's right. This also fixed mine. Its gut wrenching when it happens, the first thing you think is a transmission. 35.00 bucks at advance auto and no tools to boot for me.

Good video. Very helpful indeed. I have a 2006 F150 and back in 2008 when I bought the truck, people were talking about this issue. So much so, that I bought a spare actuator to keep in the truck figuring mine would fail on a Sunday when dealers are closed. So far the 13 year old original actuator has continued to work perfectly, but now I know what it could sound like if it fails. Thanks for the video.

Dealer told me it would be $1800 to fix this issue. Thank you very much for the remedy.

The dealership replaced all my camphasers and the left turbocharger( under warranty thankfully). Still making the noise. Then they said it was the catalytic converter. I fixed it myself by watching this video and spending $56 on parts.

Its the vacuum check valve that is the problem, you are losing vacuum and partially engaging 4wd. Older f150 use Motorcraft YG429 check valve, 2015 up use Motorcraft YG360.

Same God damn noise my 2013 Expedition would make, I replaced the whole transfer case to fix. I already did every other component including the front diff, I guess I won't drive 450 miles in a snow storm again on the Intestate in AWD.
That noise you have, I noticed when I would go from 2H to AWD it would go away. Talking about throwing parts at something and leaving the expensive one to last which was actually the culprit binding the whole system up.

The only component not replaced of the IWE/4WD was the switch on the dash.

Just had the same problem, the dealership told me $500, I told them to find the largest wrench in the shop and shove it up their ass and leave it there.

Just had this exact same problem on a 2019 at 26k miles. This seems to have fixed it. I drove about 25 miles no more noise.

That sounds nearly identical to what Ive been hearing and came across the same fix. I bought the assembly and replaced the solenoid as well but to no avail it is still happening. Really thought I found the problem. Any ideas if there are any other components to this vacuum I may need to change or check? Not sure how to test if it is getting proper vacuum or not.

I think this is my issue as well. 2018 Lariat 4x4 F150 V6 3.5L 65K miles: when accelerating (especially at higher speeds) I hear a rattle cumming from underneath the truck. It sounds like I am dragging empty coke cans under my truck. The sound continues and seems to intensify until I hear a thump sound. Sometimes the Thump sound is more of a hard knock or bump. I do not hear the sound again until I let off the gas and then accelerate again. At any time If I let off he gas, it stops immediately. This is most likely to occur when I drive uphill. I live in East Tennessee so there are a lot of hills

Had same issue after tons of rain. I actually engaged the 4x4 system an then went back to 2x4 an it quit an hasn’t done it since.. Mine felt like it was being held back. Almost like the brakes where on but was definitely not the brakes. It sounded like a serious failure had occurred.
